They probably COULD be pot-modded, unfortunately a lot of these lasers are "assemble once" sorts of builds. But for that price you wouldn't be at too much of a loss if it wasn't moddable, and it'd probably be easier to do so than the NewWish pens.

That said I wouldn't count on a long life after potmodding them. But for the price, it's probably worth the risk.

Many of these cheaper lasers use the same driver circuit; instead of producing a bunch of different drivers for different lasers.

What they do, is they put a small potentiometer, or "pot" (knob) on the circuit board, internally, where current can be adjusted.

Often, the cheaper lasers which are advertised in 'grades' of say, "5mw, 20mw, 50mw" are actually the same laser, with this 'pot' turned to different settings.

So you could buy a low power laser and increase its power. The problem is, if you turn that knob too far, it's usually *poof* without warning, so you can destroy the laser pretty easily that way.

so basically a potentiometer is like a volume control; lets in more current to the "speakers" or laser diode in this case

Yes, that's correct, in fact most volume controls -are- potentiometers. (also known as variable resistors). I do have two Arctics on order but I'd actually suggest people take a look at CNI's offerings in 447 if they don't want to build. Same diode, probably much better build quality. But last thing I want to do is turn this into another Arctic thread -- that tends to get things deleted lately.

Seriously, look at CNI's lasers - check Glenn's Group Buy #11 in the Group Buy forums. We need to get 10 447's on order for that to go through anyways. So bring your friends. :)

:wtf::drool:Well
Thanks very much That's good I like it
Looks like a good deal. Finding batteries may be a bit of a chore unless you already have rechargeables
