I'm thinking about gettin one, but I'm concerned about the safety.
And how dangerous is a DX 30mW laser? If I look into it for 1 second will I be blind?

Heh, I'm not a idiot cmon. I havent bought it yet.
Tho I was just asking, to know how dangerous 30mW is.

And all the technical stuff in the safety section isn't giving me anything.

Oh and thankyou LarryQ. That was very good info.

So what I understand now, is that anything stronger than 5mW, is dangerous?
Like if I ordered a 10mW and the reflection of that from a car-window or something hit my eye
I could actually hurt my vision?

Yes anything over 5mw is going to hurt your eye, maybe if it is 10mw and it gets reflected you might just suffer temporarly spots in your eye but still dont risk it. The only thing that i would feel safe without goggles is a true 5mw which im waiting for.

....lazer..... ;D ;D ;D

I have a true 30mW and I'm not too concerned about it. I even use my 115mW green without goggles for the most part unless it is something up close or reflective materials. not saying you should do that though! but don't worry about it too much

Well we just have no way of confirming the power of them unless we have a meter and since DX does not have a proper way of testing them the power would greatly very between every unit. But this is a measured 115mW CNI Pen i'm talking about too. :D

The DX lasers aren't always underpowered, but the output powers are pretty random My friend has a DX50 that lights matches instantly and is almost as bright as my old 113mW laser.

I would not bet my safety on a DX (or any other) laser being underpowerd. It's true that many dx pointers come a bit short of specified power, but usually not by -that- much.

Ofcourse there is the occasional dud that puts out 1 mw or even less of green, but the ones that actually work can put uit quite a lot of light.

I'm sorry if I sounded like I insulted you Stigern!!!

It's just that what you asked is a really tough question!

To just say that a <5mW laser cannot hurt your eyes.... MIGHT lead someone to decide to stare into the beam!

Any level of laser energy in your eye is not a good thing.....

Again ....I was not insinuating that you were an idiot.........

I apologse..if it seemed so...

well, my dad works in a hospital, they use big class 4 lasers to cut off tissue inside ur body (using fiberoptic camera and laser thingy) and he is very experienced with this stuff. He says it wont hurt you instantly, but the thing in your eye (i dont remember I think he called it a corona or something) is black, and like other things that are black, it burns when exposed to dangerous powerful lasers. You wont really truly sense it now, but you will know later, when you start to slowly lose your eyesight. If the laser is powerful enough, yes, it will blind you in an instant, but a 30mW wont do that, it will damage ur eyes tho. Dont be too worried about it, I work with my senkat laser without googles all the time, just dont get ur head to close to the beam or what your lasing.

have fun, be safe,

amk
