I am a novice to say the least and need help finding what I want w/o getting screwed. Here is what I want:

Green compact pocket sized or large pen size

300 mw real output

Ship to US within two weeks

Rechargeable lithium battery

In stock item

Willing to spend $500-$600 if I know I am getting a top of the line product

Does this exist? If so, can one of you experts please point me in the correct direction. My head is spinning from reading posts and going to websites not knowing what is good/bad, reputable or not. Thank you to anyone who can help. I'd rather have a US company that I could call and talk to rather than sending money blindly, but I am open to anything that fits!

Hi-Jak, welcome to LPF.

300mW real output in a pen? Unlikely. Checkout o-like, but I doubt you will find anything over 200mW and even then I doubt it will be what they say.

Good luck.

The only item that meets your criteria, but slightly over your budget:
http://www.novalasers.com/NOVAstore/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=12
275mW average is listed, but is likely to peak over spec 10-15%. One member got one that peaked over 400mW.
3-day UPS shipping is free on orders over $500.
Also, I think the LPF discount code "WARP5" is still active.

Nova is a reliable company and I would recommend them.
They are not USA based, but are located in Canada.

Thanks for the response. Their website says "currently out of stock" for the 250's and 275mw. I have an email to them asking when they expect to have more. Their "Endeavor" series is exactly what I am looking for. They have the 225mw available. How much difference do you think there is between the 225 and the 275 with respect to beam brightness, visibility and burn capabilities?
Thanks,
JAK

The visible difference between 225mW and 275mW will not be much.

But it also depends on the actual power. As a rule of thumb, 4 times the power means twice the brightness.
Our eyes respond to light on a curve. The more intense it gets, the less sensitive our eyes become to compensate.

Burning capability will be about the same, but again it depends on what lasers you are comparing. If you get a good 275 that averages over 300mW, the difference may be pretty large.

It is difficult to set a DPSS laser to an exact number since there are so many variables that affect performance. The power rating is a minimum of what you can expect.
Other companies like DealExtreme, O-like, etc. generally list the lasers by their maximum output, so they seem more powerful.

>200mW of green is very bright anyway, and I don't think you will be disappointed either way.
