Picked up this little beauty from a local guy on cl for 25 bucks. It is extremely bright but doesn't seem to burn anything. Runs on a single 18650 4000mah 3.7v cell. I figure it will tide me over until i can have one of the board members make me something very special. The only marking on it is a sticker saying runfa 14.01. Anyone know anything about these? It is chinese for sure, aluminum black host, lanyard, and safety lock. If there's anyone in the dallas ft worth area with an LPM I'd gladly meet up to determine its power. It produces a beautiful visible green beam and too bright a spot on the wall to look at.
I'll try and post pics soon.

Edit: it burns through dark blue grocery bags but not black paper.

Yeah definetely could use some pics. I believe 50mw or so will burn through dark plastic grocery style bags at very close range but thats about it, and the dot will be okay to look at from a range on a non reflective surface. 100mw im not sure would burn paper though if focused I'm betting it is possible.. Is yours a pen? What type of host?

35mW will start to poke very small holes in thin, dark plastic. 100mW-150mW will start to cut thin, dark plastic with ease :)

That's because The Greenlander reads the forum a LOT and learns valuable info. He is a diligent learner!

A big factor in any type of burning is its ability to focus. If it's burning without focus then you have a little power on your hands. Around 100mw.

The grocery bags take a much lower temp to cut/burn, then the black paper. But it looks like you got a fun laser to start with. Let the addiction begin! ;)

You aren't kidding i cant stop playing with it(in a safe manner of course.). I've been intensely interested since seeing wickedlasers a few yrs back and my interest is renewed now that i see they are becoming more affordable. I'm also glad i found LPF as had i not i would have ended up buying a WL Spyder and paying too much for an inferior item. Already in touch with someone about getting a 445nm build that will make it look like a toy for half the price :). Definitely the start of an addiction i never knew i had! Something about a "friggin laser beam!" You can hold in hand. When i was a kid i never would've dreamed of such powerful lasers in such manageable sizes.

After you build one, doors really open as far as building things tailored to you. But when you kill a diode, you'll think about just buying them done lol. Jk
Just hang around and learn as much as possible. In no time you'll have the confidence and equipment you build. As you buy lasers, you'll buy testing equipment, then stuff for repair. Before you know it, you can't walk in your workspace.

Yeah thx for the encouraging words, the input and the welcome. Just figured out how to use the focusing lens and it burns dark paper, fries ants, and cuts plastic salad dishes from mcds albeit rather slowly. Not quite the power for the utility applications i want to try a laser for but still strikingly beautiful and taught me respect i will need for more powerful ones. I honestly find it more entertaining than my pc games. Renewed a childhood interest in electronics and science i think!

Runs on a single 18650 4000mah 3.7v cell.

You mean it runs on a ticking time bomb waiting to happen. I strongly urge you to replace that battery ASAP. Please read this thread to find out why.

Also, the 4000mAh stated capacity is almost certainly a lie; Panasonic makes 3400mAh cells and AFAIK they are the highest actualc apacity available. They are also very high quality cells.

Ultrafire and other cheapo Chinese cells do not conform to UL safety standards but for whatever reason the public is uneducated about any of it, and just keeps right on buying them. They want to save a buck but they risk paying big when one of the cells decides to grenade itself, either on the charger or while installed in your laser.

This is not paranoia, it is fact. These things have injured people and damaged property. Please replace that battery with a quality unit ASAP.
