I am sure you all have heard it before, "I am looking for a place to buy a laser" and this seems to be the best laser forum I could find.

I am looking for a laser, but a bit different than most. I bought a cheap one from DX and it has something loose in it and works when it wants to. I have hopes of finding a green laser that will point at stars and play with cats, it would be awesome if the same laser would help me lay tiles in straight line and follow stud on new drywall. It would be awesome if it would take 18650 or AA batteries and actually work when I wanted it to. All lasers I find talk about burning and popping balloons, I am not interested in that.

Does anybody make what I am looking for?:undecided:

A 15mw - 50mw green laser would be perfect for your needs. Since you don't want to burn anything those powers would be great. They are very visible at night especially the 50mw green laser.

And welcome to the forum please get some safety glasses if you get any laser over 5mw

I have found a lzcb 30mw at a lazerer store that looks good to me, but it does not have any reviews.

Can I use up to 50mW and be cat safe?

Ok, so let me get this straight, if <5mW is cat safe. How many mW in green do I need to see the beam in daylight?

With enough dust or smoke in the air, you can see the beam of a 5mW green in the day.

With no dust in the air, you won't even be able to see the beam of a 500mW during the day.

Is it possible to buy a green laser that has 3 different power levles like a good flashlight? If not, is it possible to build such a laser, like a 50-100mW with 3 power levels down to 5mW?

I would like to have a quality laser that is cat safe and uses the 18650 battery with a quality switch that works when I want it to, it doesnt sound like I am asking too much, am I?

:wtf: kind of pot are you smoking?

If you don't have anything useful to ad, don't say anything.

The OP would need a custom driver, and not all modules would perform well.

What he is asking for is too much.

Saying you need a pot, is like telling a guy who wants a bugatti, hey you just need wheels.

Stop spewing garbage.

You shouldn't play with cats using green lasers. They're usually overspec, and I've found that cats think it's too bright. Don't use any laser you wouldn't shine into your own eyes, meaning even 5mW lasers would probably be too bright (cats will be mere inches from the dot). My cat loves red laser pointers, and it would probably be a better choice.
