I'm getting ready to order my first green laser. I am looking at the Nowt Series 532nm 120mW green laser from highlasers.com for $223.00.

Is this a reputable company to order from and is this a good laser? Should this have a good visible beam?

Thanks
Jeff

First of all, Welcome to the forum!
Second of all, don't buy from Highlasers.com.
The main places to buy lasers from are Novalasers, Laserglow, Optotronics, and Dragonlasers. Novalasers, Laserglow, and Optotronics have the best quality lasers and the best customer service. Dragonlasers, although they have competitive prices, have decent quality lasers. If you want really low prices and don't care about quality, then you should check out DealExtreme.
Why would you buy a laser from a shaky company that has no reputation, when you can buy from a true company with an excellent reputation? ;)

Hi Jeff,
If you like wickedlasers and techlasers, you'll love highlasers.com; they are all owned by the same individual.
I had one of my colleagues look into highlasers a few months ago and they found web caches of the website from back in mid (December) of 2007 when the domain was 1st registered that the registrar's email address was listed as "apricotscrub@gmail.com". This email address is one of the alias email accounts used by the owner of wicked lasers. Within a couple days after registering the domain, they hid the owner behind a proxy service.
One thing that is interesting to note is that if you go to highlasers and look at the individual pointer products, down at the bottom they have a section called "What people think..." where it lists customer comments on that particular product. You will see they are all dated as being submitted in the 1st few days of January 2008...The funny thing is, this website didn't even go live with actual content until 12/28/2007. Amazing how these people (all with really "phony sounding names) were able to discover the website so quickly, place an order, receive the product all the way from China and write a review/comment on how great the product is...all in 3-4 days time and most of that time was over a weekend when most businesses are unable to ship.

Oh, one last tidbit that sealed the fact it was WL owned is that when they 1st went live with the website, two of the products were the 'spyder" and "executive" series lasers.

Hopefully that answers your question as to a reliable company or not.

RallyeX, there are a ton of cheap green lasers to be had...

Many people start out with a cheap one. Eventually, you will want a quality one. Everybody here will acknowledge that Optotronics is one of the best! I am impressed also with the upgrade policy that Optotronics has!

Your best bet would be NOVAlasers, Laserglow, or Optotronics. They're all good. Remember to order laser safty goggles too!
