Got my Opto pen today. I have recharged the batteries a couple times already. I am new to high power lasers. This one is rated at 152mw. Just enough to keep me occupied for a while. Popping ballons = easy. Matches = Easy. Finally it got dark outside...(been waiting since 6am)....This thing is awesome. I am awe struck. The range is insane (yea I know its a pen style). I now understand why people would pay what they pay for RPLs. Looks like I need to start Saving.

In short, I bought it to see if I would possibly enjoy the hobby. I think I just added a hobby to my list.

Thanks for the info people. Probably see me floating around LPF;)

Welcome to the forum.... We are glad to have you. I have the +150mW laser pen also and it is great. Just remember this laser operates best when it is cold or cool, 70º~75º and it will loose power if it gets too hot.

Yeah the RPL series are awesome! I just received my RPL 425 and it is sweet! Like you said, save your dough because they are worth it. Enjoy your laser.

A GB for Opto is coming that could have discounts from 20% and upwards depending on the order. Might want to check that out to get an RPL for cheap

Throw in a couple of Energizer Lithiums in there and witness the true power of this laser!
You might not get the most out of this laser using rechargables.

I have this laser too and it is AWESOME!

Although Lithiums are powerful and last long, they are actualy too powerful for this laser. Out of the box, they are rated at 1.7v. The max and recomended voltage is 1.5v. I use Duracell Coppertops in my Opto :D and they work great. If you do end up using Lithiums, use them in some remotes and drain there power before you use them in the laser.

yahh u gotta love them opto. pens....ive had just about every highpowered pen available..now im taking standard 5mw pens gutting them and installing 120/150mw modules in these units.... 40.00 thats really all i got in them ...im all about 40.00 for a 135mw pens... and if something goes wrong or i want more power i can always pop another module in ... alittle bit of building fever i guess...but its fun to make something work..
