i tried pot modding with my radioshack greenie, was a waste of time. Compared to my DX 50mW the beam was much much dimmer. You also will probably ruin the leadlight cosmetically when attempting to open it up since most of the time they're glued together. I would suggest buying a module that is set to what mW you want and building your own. There are a few kits on here (excellent ones from Jayrob) that allow you to build one.

Wait a minute, can you link me to the type of laser you bought from DealExtreme? I bought one from them a few weeks ago and am still waiting for it in the mail. How exactly did you pot mod it?

Also, what mW is the "burning threshold"?

WRONG, there are many places that pass the regulations of the FDA and are over 5mW

Dude, just build a DIY, you can pot mod any laser, but it will never be able to burn stuff other than thinner than paper black plastic.

If you want a REAL pointer, rated the true power, and lasts long, go with rayfoss.com.

... I was replying to peoples comments as I went down them. Also, I still havent quite figured out the laserpointerforums, I am somewhat new.

And, maybe they have been burning up 5mW pens all of this time. What if I just stopped them and came up with a solution with their year long problem of killing pens by modding them =P
