Here is some better pics of the 4.2v modules driver board.

notice the Q3 transistor under Resistor R4.

hope this helps

That looks pretty much like the DX modules...

But the 3 volt module shown in my first post is different...

Uhm, i see ..... i was thinking about switching the resistor on the opposite side, making two holes through the soldering pads, but i see from the pics that the place is already occupied from the switch, so no way ..... or, better said, still doable, but require to take away the switch, cut and rewire a pair of tracks ..... possible, but probably not for all the hobbysts (no offense intended)

The more easy system that i see, then, is to take away that resistor and substitute it with some SMD resistors soldered in "wafer" style, one over the other ..... if it's 0,22 ohm, you can use 5 x 1,1 ohm in parallel ..... the 1206 size (3,2x1,6mm) hold usually 250mW of power, so you end with 0,22 ohm 1,25W ..... considering that a diode like that one usually need 800ma ..... say 1A for precaution ..... 1A through 0,22 ohm is 220mV, and 220mV at 1A are 0,22W ..... more than enough .....

Being more precise, also standard low-cost SMD resistors in 0805 size (2x1,2mm) of 0,125W are enough, 5 of them hold 0,625mW, after all ..... and 1,1 ohm is actually an easy value to find ..... anyway, this take away the resistor from the transistor, and also give you the possibility to glue some piece of aluminium on the transistor itself, or solder a little piece of copper on its tab, or just fill the space from the module and the host with thermal conductive silicone glue, as i also sometimes do ..... this will improve the heat dissipation a lot ;)

Finaly posted in the b/s/t section heres the link if anyone is interested in checking it out.
Please note that prices are $75 shipped, the $72 sale has ended.
It would be great if people could post some reviews specific to the 3v module in my new post so people dont get confused looking at this thread with the 3v modules and the discontinued 3.6-4.2v modules.

Thanks again everyone.

I just bought one of these and intend to bypass the module electronics and hook a die4drive up to it. Has anyone tried that yet? I wonder how hard or easy it will be to do that. I plan on using it in a laser projector if the modulation is acceptible. Otherwise, it will go in a lumia wheel.

Hey Nexbox,

My green came in, safe and sound! I've powered it up and dag this thing is bright! Put on my red-lensed goggles and noticed that the whole time, I was accidentally burning my side-table!!!

Beam is extremely thin, like a 0.7mm pencil lead

Just wanted to report back that it arrived. Thanks again, Nexbox!

anyone know if the 3v module is good for a projector setup, can it be modulated to control the current with a different driver.

Being a circuit based on a op-amp, it can be modified for add a modulation, but is not easy, if you have not experience in working on SMD small PCBs ..... also, the driver from these modules are not designed for work for long times, as in a scanner/projector .....

IMHO, the better thing to do, if you want to use it in this way, is disconnect the diode from the driver, place the module in a good heatsink, build an external driver and hook it on the module with wires ..... this way, you can design a driver specifically built for long-time use, with heatsinking and all the rest ;)

I would be interested in an already built driver i could use for my own project.....
Think you could help me out im not very good with small smd stuff only thing i have done is solder tiny smd leds to xbox 360 ring of light mods...
Thanks

Fixed or modulated ? ..... analog or digital modulation ?

I usually don't make drivers for sell them, only for my use, and don't have an "industrial" structure, for this, so i build them as prototypes ..... so, i can't make series for sell them, but if you need just a pair of prototypes, i think i can build them for you, if you're not in hurry .....

need more info.
What were you driving it with? what power?
Pictures maybe of it and the splash.
