DX True 30mw Popping Balloons?

I just received mine and the beam is considerably brighter than my WL Core but it sure does not pop balloons. Is anyone able to do this without a lens in front of the aperture? \
I'm running this thing on Duracel Alkalines and when they're new, the beam seems stable but after a while not so.

I've done it from many feet with stock batteries. (balloon was sharpied an it took a while)

I stand corrected. This thing DOES pop sharpied balloons! Not too bad for less than $25.00.
BUT
Anyone attempting to do this, PLEASE use goggles!!! Save your eyesight to work with more lasers.

The first try was unsharpied. The second time it was. Both times without a lens. From about one inch away, it popped almost instantly. From about two feet, it took maybe 20 seconds. I didn't think a 30 mw laser could do this. At least that is what the major companies say.

It's a bit touch and go with 30 mW i guess. My DX30 pops sharpied balloons too, but you have to get it all pretty steady to work. I guess you might be disappointed if you order a laser that's advertised to pop balloons, and it turns out to take some effort (sharpie, steady hand).

Ok I just tried it recently, I have to concede that my DX 30 does in fact pop sharpied black balloons without a lens from ~3 feet in <5 seconds held very steady. But it doesn't pop black unsharpied balloons. Not enough black I guess. If you stretch a balloon skin tightly over the dx30 and turn it on, it will burn through the black latex in a few seconds depending on how tightly stretched.

Pretty impressive really. Everyone was saying how their dx30 could pop balloons even with dimming problems but mine didn't seem to cooperate. Didn't know sharpieing a black balloon helps so much. And perhaps blowing it up a little bigger.

Sadly :'( my DX True 30 only lasted about 20 TOTAL minutes of use before dying.
It was very cool while it lasted but what's the use in waiting weeks for something that's only going to last minutes? With all of the other complaints, I'm totally turned off to DX lasers.

Just found that my DX20 pen laser will pop balloons with a lens (un-sharpied) :)
No such luck w/o the lens, even sharpied, but I was amazed a 20mw would do anything like that. (When it's not fading out. - From day one I've had what seems like switch problems.)

With a lens it's probably not that hard to do... i've even lit a match with a DX30, but that only works with a lens, effort, luck and at the exact focal point ;)

I've popped sharpied balloons with my DX30 green with no assistance. Takes a few seconds, but pretty impressive for a 30mw
