DX True 30 power drops after split second

I have a DX true 30, I used to have a 50mw that was from ebay but could never test its output, lost it so went to DX.

For the first split second the beam is really bright then it drops to about 60% maybe. I thought it must be the poor batteries that come supplied so got some energizer lithiums and the same problem occurs.

Is there anyway to fix this? I read on here that the pot mod does nothing on some DX true 30 schematics.

Don't want to open it up unless there is a chance it can be modded. The pot mod did nothing to my 50mw laser.

Cheers

mine did that put it through a lens or magnifying glass because it might be mode hopping

Its usually a problem with the driver, but that's not that easy to fix. I had a DX20 with the same problem and built my own driver into it, which solved the dimming problem entirely... but it's finicky work and probably not worth the effort.

Mine does the same when it's cold. If I heat it up for a couple of minutes (with body heat of course, don't put it on the central heating ;)) it works fine and stays very stable.

you're seeing the peak output of your laser, then it drops down to normal output - but if you put it through the magnifying glass and see two or more dots, then your laser is mode hopping and should be returned

Mine did that once I cranked the pot to max...I had to lower it just a little bit (plus new batts.)

It made no noticeable difference (to the eye), but it did produce heat and pop balloons after 3 sec. @ 1 ft. (sometimes) compared to nothing before. But then it had this problem with huge power drop after 1 sec. on, so in actually, it really didn't do anything because I just had to put it back anyway.
