Well, it depends what power it is meant to handle, and what exactly it is. Where did you get it?
From your description, it is all you need, as both crystals are glued together.

You could try pumping it at lower powers first. But with enough patience and a 500mW C-Mount diode with a fast axis microlens, you could make a laser out of it. The exact power of green, that would come out is impossible to guess. You could get 70mW or you could burn it. Or it could work really well and put out more than 100mW.

The problem with DX lasers isn't just the crystals, but the diode as well. It is powerfull, but projects a long narrow stripe. Ihe IR is completelly uncollimated, when it enters the crystals, making alignment very problematic and causing unnecesary problems.

here is a link for the crystals you were asking about. Sometimes he sells the glued + KTP, but the only one he has now is for 1064nm. Keep an eye on him, I delt with him a while back, and he usually has some cool stuff up for sale :)

There are some interesting things in his shop..

I was searching for the two crystals glued together a while ago, and what surprises me, are the low output powers specified, when pumped at 500mW.
It's usually around 70mW, so i'm wondering how NewWish can get more out of questionable quality crystals.

Or maybe that's the reason there are so many problems with them.

I'm not really sure what its meant to handle, its bigger and looks more 'robust' than the dx one-piece crystal though. Maybe I'll rig it up in a DX pointer and see what happens.

As long as you ensure good contact with the brass nut, that is holding the original crystals, and gradualy ramp the current, there shouldn't be any problems.

Due to the lack of IR collimation, you will have to bring the crystals as close to the diode as possible, without touching it (you don't want to scratch them or break the laser chip). Unless they are much bigger, you will most likely have to align one of the diagonals of the crystal with the fast axis of the diode. This is how i got the most output out of it.

Oh, and i think the DX crystals are also two pieces glued together, but they look as one since they're both the same size, and the middle is hidden by glue. In another newwish laser i found the first crystal was larger, than the second, which made it more obvious, that they are in two pieces.

I will be very interested in your results.
BTW: Where did you get these crystals?

That's a similiar price to the ones on e-bay, but i would actually prefer to order from roithner.
Not sure about the efficiency tho.. 5% seems low in comparison to what these cheap chinese pointers do.

Otherwise i was asking about his crystals, to see if i could find some specs, since he doesn't know what they're capable of.

;) also take a look at their optics section. there's a nice assortment of collimator lenses, acrylic and glass, single- and multi-element. im planning on ordering a few 635nm diodes and a 1- or 2W 808nm one. shipping cost is a bit on the high end, though.

Hmm, a fast axis microlens or two would be nice.

I'm not worried about shipping costs, as Austria is just around the corner, and i usually have stuff sent to a friend there, as it is cheaper this way.

For some reason companies from Austria and Germany only seem to be able to ship using DHL, which makes shipping to me more expensive than sending something half way around the earth with priority airmail.
