hi there
i am powering my dx 20 "true" with 3 volt powersuply (mains power) and the beam is super vivid even in a well lit room. it mode hops on power on but then stableises, is this normal?. it is so bright itis uncomfortable to look at the dot (i orderedthe 20mw becuase i thought it would be quite tame)

Are you using high power batteries? I had the same problem with my 200mw and I changed to the batteries it came with and it is better but I was told to use the AAA NiMH (they're typically 1.2v) and this will be much nicer to the diode. It looks like your beam is mode hoping in the pic, or the laser isn't being held still.

well the mains is the most powerful battery i own lol (maplin psu 3V). but it is mode hopping a bit on start up but it wasnt in that pic. i doubt that my laser will break under the power becaus looking at the price that is nearly the same as a 30mw - so probably has the same diode and optics just the current is up a bit so im probably not running it harder than a 30mw diode(pump).

The 150mw and 200mw diode is actually different than the 5mw-100mw from Deal Extreme.

what i am saying is that my dx20 is probably the sme as the dx30 because they are more or less the same price. this means that overpowering my dx20 cant be too bad becuase it is designed also to go in a higher output laser anyway (dx30)
