DX 100mw batteries

Hello everyone I bought a True 100mw from DX and it is working really fine (burning matches, popping ballons etc...) but my problem is that the batteries (I use normal 1.5v) run out too fast (2-3 days) so what's the best rechargable batteries for this laser pointer? Thank you in advance

When you say 2-3 days, how much time are you using it during those days. Also if youre using regular AAA batteries, that would explain it, alkalines sag very quickly. Try using a lithium with a spacer (its a 10440 battery).


Questions like this can be answered usually by reading the various posts here in the forums. Do some research!

Thanks man that helps me out also i just got my DX true 100 and its a little shaky at times but its amazing. my alkalines have to be replaced everyday! i gotta buy some recharge

but a 10440 battery produces 3, 3.6v by it self I dont need 2 of AAA batteries? if I use 2 it will burn the laser...

Only use one of the 10440's with a spacer. Two will fry the module!

Spacers can be made with aluminum foil and electrical tape.

Take aluminum foil and wrap tightly into small cylinder to the size of the battery. Then wrap it in electrical tape, leaving two ends exposed. Worked perfectly for me with my 50mW DX. You may even get a slight increase in power.

you got a good true 100. i 've seen reviews.. in wich the true 100ms is strong as true 30....or just a bit more stronger..... i would order a dealextreme green laser. but i don't know if it is better to give lion powered lasers... or 2xaaa battery.......
but i think that it i get 2xaaa... i could overpower it with a 10400 lion :) getting a good power.... also more than the rated power......

o wait i can just buy one single 10440 battery and use like tin foil or a aluminum bar the same size as a AAA to space it?
and 3.6 volts wont fry my diode right?

a charged lion is at 4.2volt... and i don't know f it is ok for the laser ... but i think yes. a bit of tolleracnce in the electronic... is ok...

Ive run several pointers with one of the 10440's in them with a spacer, never ran into any problems! It may not last as long as it should (>5000 hrs) but its not going to burn it out.

If youre really worried about this, I would consider building a higher powered laser that will stand the test of time instead of buying the cheap DX models.

I use eneloop rechargeable NiMH AAA batteries in my pen lasers and they last longer than any other AAA battery that I have used. Although I have had no problems with the slightly lower voltage in my lasers, I've never had a True 100 before so I don't know how it will react.

eneloop are very good. but using nimh in a laser pointer should give less power....than the alcalines. the 10440 is a good choice.. also because they are lithium.. and this kind of chemistry is known to have a low self discharge...better than LSD nimh :)

Sorry for posting into this old tread, but this really belongs exactly here.

Per my own measurements these laser pointer modules start lasing at full power if you feed them 2.5 Volts or more. Below 2,5V they start becoming weaker until they stop lasing at about 2V. If you supply a voltage over 2,5 Volts, the laser will not become stronger due to the regulation in the module.

3,6 V, or 4,2V will not lead to a higher current at the diode nor to a higher current at the battery, so the diode´s lifetime will not be reduced. Because of this there is no need for "turning the pot down". The lithium cell powered green pointers I own are all equipped with the same kind of module, the same kind of module which is used in the 2-alkaline-celled pointers.

But: The higher voltage will create significantly more heat in the module (not in the LD directly. Significantly here means about 100-200% more. This could in fact decrease the module´s lifetime, and it for sure reduces the overall efficiency.

Beside of this the laser could easily discharge the unprotected lithium cell down to 2,5V before you realize it´s empty, even a discharge down to 2V is possible, which could shorten the lithium cells lifetime with a high probability, if you don´t use a diode in series.

So the best idea is to use 2x1.2V NiMH. Even if I like 1-celled 3,6V pointers more, its only because of the form factor. Electrically two NiMH is the best choice.
