Hi all,

Sorry my camera is on charge, I'll post a photo soon.

I have dissembled a dead 10mW green module and found one part I do not understand. It is mounted just above the crytal and has 2 wires going back to the driver.

Is this optical regulation? It is odd because the "device" is angled away from the crystal.

Thanks in advance!

It is part of an automatic power control circuit.
Part of the beam is reflected onto the photo-diode. If the light output is too high or too low, the current will be adjusted to set the power at a pre-determined value.
This is commonly found in 5mW laser pointers. It is used to keep the output stable as DPSS lasers tend to "drift" with temperature variations.

Ok, makes sense seeing as the cold current is 310mA, dropping to approx 260mA after 10 minutes. This is with the module in a heatsink approx 1" x 3" x 6" (big I know!).

Camera batts still on charge...
