Dot pictures at 20 meters. Is divergence good enough ?

Hello,

I'm still testing my new JetLasers PL-D Pro 532nm 400 mW.
At first, it appeared unstable but I have no experience with green lasers (other than cheap DX pointers).
http://laserpointerforums.com/f45/normally-unstable-defective-76121.html (sorry, it should have been "Normally unstable or defective ?")

I informed Gray about this and he replied that I can send the laser back and that they will pay for the shipping. But he doesn't consider the laser defective and does not offer to replace it. Their service is excellent.

Then it may be that I'm too demanding (or not ?).

I've made a few shots of the dot. I did it on a sunny day, at 20 meters on a black surface. What's the best way to make such pictures ?

At 20 meters, the laser was focused "to infinity" and that was the smallest dot I could have. I'd say the size is about 5 cm x 6 cm.

I'm trying to determine if the dot shape and size are OK for that type of laser.
I've spent hours trying to find videos or pictures of what it should be but I'm still uncertain whether to keep it or to return it. I'm considering a lasever as an alternative. But this one isn't focusable. Is it important ?
Why are some lasers focusable ?

DPSS Laser,Green laser,Blue lasers,Red lasers form Lasever

Please help me to decide what to do. Is my JetLasers good enough as it is ?
Should I return it and buy a lasever instead ?
or buy a lasever and keep both ?

TIA.

Please gentlemen, even if you read this in a week, your opinion is important!

And to prove that I'm not an angry guy and that I can enjoy life with lasers, here are a few beam pictures (my firsts).

And with more colors...

Meh, 2.5mRad? Not great, but fairly typical for higher power pointers like that.

Maybe it helps you for the decision. I took a beamshot for you, distance extactly 15 meters. 800mw Lasever module inside a Firedragon host.
The slight white shade above it is the smoke from the burned paper. Dotsize at aperature about 4mm. If i measure on the screen, i get about 18mm dotsize. That would make ~0.93mrad.

Greets from Austria (your german, right?)

Power Rock waterproof Red laser torch 250mW /Focusable
Power Rock 1W Blue laser torch /Focusable/ waterproof
(from (n)olike)

These were my first two powerful lasers. The blue was frightening. But these host are small and light and the blue starts blinking after about 30 seconds.

The red seems to be able to run for minutes.

That's why I wanted to have something bigger and heavier that could run until the battery is empty.

Ahhh, thank you very much. You're very helpful. And you have a beautiful and huge house.

Is your laser focusable ?

You gave me the idea to redo the test with a 30mW (so they say) green from dealextreme. The distance is again 20 meters.

I'm sad to notice that a 30 $ laser (non focusable) gives a cleaner and smaller dot than a 400 $ from a reputable company.

I've confirmed my order for a lasever handheld.

PS: Wir haben LIDL Geschäfte auch in Frankreich.

the blue one throws a nice beam!

what are you going to do with your greenie?

Yes, I like that blue and I'll try to do better pictures soon. And I have to be good because I can't try again and again while leaving it on or it'll fry. Oh, BTW, this one too has an awful divergence but the price and my expectations were lower.

As for the green: it's very unstable, seems to never work in TEM00 and has a high divergence. I love the host and the simplified code switch and I'm sure I'll regret them but I'm going to return it.

And for the first (and last) time with my new JetLasers, I present you a few night shots with stars! (Ursa Major in the first two).

I think u´ll be happy with the lasever handheld. If its like mine, you have great divergence combined with good power. Tried it today at 60 meters. Dotsize 50-55mm
And i ordered my first red handheld with ~1w from rhd today

Wich one of Lasever did you order?

But the modules they sell may not be the same as those that are in their handheld.

I've ordered one LSR532HD-B, 400 mW.

But I haven't received the payment request I asked for.
At first, I asked a few questions before confirming my order and I insisted that I wanted a handheld green laser that conforms to its specifications as they are displayed on their site:
Spatial Mode TEM00
Beam Divergence 0.8 mrad
DPSS Laser,Green laser,Blue lasers,Red lasers form Lasever

Then, I received this:

Oh, sorry, we forgot to revise on our website. As we made some improvement, please refer to data as below:

Beam size 1.5mm
Beam Divergence 1.2 mrad

I am cautious because I would like my customers can get what exactly they want and enjoy our lasers.
Lasever don't want to disapoint any of our customers : )

What kind of improvement is it going from 0.8 mrad to 1.2 mrad ?

I'm not really happy with all of this. Are we supposed to guess what's true and what has "improved" ? Do I have to check if the specifications have been updated ?

I was a bit disappointed to say the least so I ordered 3 green lasers from yourlasers.

0.8mrad may have been for the lower powered one. 1.2mrad is still very good for a 400mw handheld. Just compare it with products of other companies. And if you catch a "good one" it maight be even better then what the specs say.

I think I scared them with my questions:

Sorry to inform that we just quit the market of handhelds. We now only supply laser modules.

:thinking::wtf:
Would be interesting if they really quit to sell them or only not want to sell you a handheld anymore
