Ok, so I had bought a ~100mw green pen from Susie a little while back and it was great and everything, but the newwish pen style was not for me. I started trying different hosts, none lasting for more than a week or so. Finally I have come up with something that makes me happy.

The flashlight host is some Garrity brand junk led flashlight I got on sale at Meijer. I spent hours cutting and grinding down a hard drive motor to fit tightly in the flashlight, and at the same time fitting very snugly around the module (right over where the diode is seated). Everything is very tight, and the battery compartment can hold the small rechargeable 3v I use (one of the ones that come with the dilda), or it can also hold a CR123, just screws in tighter.

It looks to be the same. If her modules have a button on the driver then:

and

might be the same module.

When you take that 80-100mw pen apart, all you have to do is use pliers wrapped around rubber on the head cap and wiggle it free, then twist the cap off of the module and pull the entire module out cleanly. Hers are like the easiest to take apart pen-wise compared to a lot of other companies.

Not sure about the lens screw in the separate modules, but in my pen I had to use super glue remover to unscrew the front lens.

Impressive work :) I like your idea of using a hard drive motor for heatsinking.

Do you know if her pens use the same module as the individulal modules she sells?

No. I am pretty sure they are not the same.

The pointers have a larger internal diameter than the modules' external diameter.
I have disassembled a couple similar lasers and they use a completely different module.

I haven't purchased one of those exact pens though, so I wouldn't know.

Thanks. It's pretty heavy in the hands too  :)
Short but heavy has always been my favourite in both lasers and flashlights. :) What brand and size was the hard drive you got it from?

I believe it was either a Maxtor or a Western digital. I took apart a broken 80gig Maxtor, Some piece of crap 20gig "Magnetic Data" brand (that's basically like having a "Toothpaste" brand toothpaste), and a 10 and 15 gig broken hard drive. Every single motor I took out would work in my host though as long as its cut and grinded down. There's not much of a size difference with any of them. I had all the parts mixed up after taking apart 2 of the drives so I have no clue. If you have broken hard drives though, rip them to s&%$...It's fun  :D Platters make good mirrors, motors make good heatsinks, and the neodymium magnets are cool. Also, you can hook audio cables up to a hard drive and have it play music.
