ok, i finally decided to do some reading, like i was told to do, sorry i didnt listen, i also looked up the wrong stuff, but i found the smaller the wavelenth, the better for burning, so i think out of red, green, and purple, purple would be the best, then green, then red.......i think.......please correct me if i am wrong.......but this completly messes me up, as i thought red burned better than green......

well, i think im wrong again.......by what i think.......im confused.......green burns better i think, because i got a nice little chart by googling energy of a photon, and i know that purple is the best burner, and it was at the top, so i thought, whats at the top is better for burning, and green was above red, therefore making it the better burner?? so, my confusion remain on the matter of green vs. red, and violets already at the top.....

Its kind of complicated. It cant really be explained to a definite answer, there are too many independent variables that effect the burning rate. Violet is the best universall burner, meaning it burns all colored matierials rather well, but with the other wavelenghts, the color of the object to be burned influences the its ability to be burned by different wavelenghts. If you want to compare them as you are doing you have to have a specific colored object that you plan to burn, black is the best for all wavelengths. But take white as an example, violet will burn white paper, but green and red wont(unless they are around 1W)
So if you have a specific colored item you want to burn, I can give you a better answer....

EDIT: On a black object 200mW of green or red will burn the object at the same rate.....

In conclusion, if you want a laser mainly to burn various things, violet would be your best bet.

That chart, if it is the one I am thinking about, is a visibility chart.

the eye sees green best. (Is this the chart???)

Nope, probably one more like this...

em.jpg

violet photons have more energy than green photons
green photons have more energy than red photons

A red, a green, and a violet laser pointer all with the same beam size, and all burning something black will all burn exactly the same. Violet is a better burner beacause more objects absorb this wavelength than others.

With red, what you want to burn needs to be on the other side of the color wheel, so that it absorbs the red light, same with the green, and to an extent same with the purple.

There is no definitive answer to this question, as there are too many variables.

thank you all for your help, i mainly mad this thread, becuase i was having trouble making a descicion of which to buy, a WLASER 100mW Green (Focusable) or an O-like 200mW Red (also Focusable) and you may think, get the red, but i knda like green more...but i like burnin stuff too (pyrochild)

Well it's your decision to make. You know the facts now. Green is best for visability, and 100mw focusable will burn fairly well. Whereas the red will burn better, but won't be near as visible. It's your choice.

so violets the best, then red...then green.....im sad...i think green lasers are the coolest though >.>.....so for a green laser to burn better, its gotta be a a 500mW moddified lolz :p man....i

500mw?r u sure:whistle:
