I still think he should get the Romisen L-A030, im playing with mines right now, annoying the birds that are in my garden, not trying to blind them, but its really funny when they jump about in amazement , wondering what the hell the green dot is, I get entertainment and the animals dont get hurt sounds good to me, now if only there was a cat out there its even funnier when they chase the dot :p.

But anyhoo go with the Romisen L-A030, I ran mines for about 5 minutes last night and there was no visible loss of power, nor mode hopping, granted the housing felt a little hot.

Well generally I'm not a very picky person but I really dont like the shape of that Romisen L-A030. Even though it does sound like a solid laser. Im more into the flashlight looking style. I just checked out that Edwina and looking at pics I cannot see the pot.

It doesn't have one, I just looked at mine, but its plenty bright, you can see the beam in the house with the lights on! phoenix77/rob

Those Romisens have that problem where the PCB is unsupported and bends after some button use. Then when I took it apart the beam didn't align so well. I eventually just used the case for some other laser project. If you get one, get the one that Diachi suggests, because it has a clicky on the back of it instead of the crappy pushbutton.

Just remember though: it's 30mW, which while quite bright, won't be burning things very well.

Yea I understand that it wont be burning anything ... again, I just want a good dependable greenie with a solid beam that does'nt go dim after like 5 seconds. I am now looking at this one that Diachi suggested. Any comments on the build quality of this particular Romisen being that it is a clicky. The good thing is that this one isnt on back order :)

i really think it has nothing to do with the batteries. I have bought from DX alot, and about one out of every 5 lasers does that. It will be very bright, with a visible beam then just dim out.

I have a CR2 powered 30mw green from Deal Extreme (sku #7883) like several people have mentioned in this thread, and it has the same dimming problem. It's definitely temperature dependent - if it's been sitting in a cool room for a while, it'll run for 15-20 seconds before it starts to dim, but if it's already warm or has been in my pocket or whatever, you get 1-2 seconds.

I don't have a power meter, but when it's fully bright it will pop black balloons from a foot or two away, which makes me think it's putting out over 30mw. When it dims, it dims by just about half, according to a very unscientific test measuring current from a small solar cell. Visibility decreases a great deal.

I'm sort of unclear if this is a problem in the pump diode/KTP/alignment, or in the current regulator. I'm vaguely inclined toward the former, but a transistor on the driver board *does* overheat, and brightness returns when I cool things with the upside down canned-air trick; but it's possible the spray also cooled the optics housing and pump diode enough to fix things too.

They're cheap enough that I'd be inclined to just buy a bunch until I get a good one, but unfortunately being in the US that's not really possible anymore. :(

I had the L-030 and while it worked, it was awesome. Absolutely no dimming, no warming after 3 -5 minutes(as long as you don´t hold it with both hands in a warm environment, I was capable of 10+ mins of operation without warming when it lyed on my table in the evening), and a very great battery life with a rcr123a from dx.

Get it. It also feels very solid, not heavy, you know what I mean...
Wish I hadn´t killed mine. You should not screw the module in and out like 20 times a day because you are a perfectionist trying to clean the fucking lens ;-D
