This sucks, I also bought a true 30mw green lasers from DX and since day one when I turn it on it has always given me a strong green burst of power for the first second then after that it dims and stays dim (if i keep the button pressed). If I keep pressing the button on and off it will output short bursts of strong power every time. but if I keep the button pressed it will dim and stay dim after the first second. :(

Sounds a lot like their little $2 red laser pointers, they output goof for a good 10 seconds the first time, but then for the next hour it will only be bright for a second then they dim.

This is the first time I've heard of a greenie leaking so much IR you get a red dot. Is this common with DX lasers? (I'm considering a 5mw for presentations...?) With DPSS lasers in genneral?

The red is because you left it in the freezer too long probably. The DX lasers leak IR. Normally this is vastly overpowered by green, but at the wrong temperatures the MCA will not absorb the pump radiation for lasing and all you'll get is 808nm output. Lose enough of the green and you'll see the 808nm as a faint red, although it brightness is deceptive - even a watt of 808nm looks dim.

As Justin said, freezer is not a good idea. Even if you don't freeze it, you're still subjecting very sensitive components to thermal shock. Letting it cool to room temperature is suggested, and perhaps drop it a few degrees if you can, but thats it.

If a good pair of batts don't solve the problem, its pretty much hopeless. See if DX will RMA, otherwise you just found out one of the downsides to the low prices of DX lasers  :(.

as someone with a dx 30 in the mail, this doesn't exactly fill me with confidence...

I guess DX greens are the equivalent of the $3 red... hopefully I will get my money's worth. if not I will at least learn something

I just recieved my DX 30 a few days ago, and so far it's incredible... almost as bright as my Aries-75, and stable too. Even if it conks out in a week, I'd still say I've gotten my money's worth.

So yeah, I wouldn't worry just yet, there's a respectable chance of getting a good one. Gotta just get lucky, I guess. ;D

The 2 greenies that I killed went down to a dim red. (seen obliquely in a darkened workshop at a distance I hasten to add)

Also other DX greenies have been variable, in that some come on at full light and stay there, more often than not though mine have started off dimmer and as they warm up get brighter. It is very much a case of you get what you pay for. I have never had one that dissapointed completely.

How can I find out if I received the right laser? I orderd a "True Green Laser" 30mw from DX and I there is nothing at all on the laser or in the box that says "True". I'm wondering if I should take a chance and order a different laser in hopes of getting a well working one.

So far my True green 30mw has never turned red at all, it only becomes dim one second after each click of the power button.

How many people have a DX True 30 that actually works as per spec? I've got one on order and this does not sound encouraging.

I was thinking on buying a true DX 30 myself, but until now I only have read good comments about it. If my DX shipment passes my country costumes without any issues I'll be surely ordering one and find out myself.

Oh, BTW, when I wrote DX asking when my laser would arrive, I received two emails stating that it is out of stock even though it shows In Stock at their site. Go figure!

That's what happened to me too , when I ordered it was listed as "in stock" but it was actually out of stock. they sent me the other stuff I ordered first with a letter that said that I would receive the laser separately when stock arrived.

I just got my True 30 two days ago and same exact deal. Bright for about .5 sec then dims so much I cannot even see the beam at night. We got to figure this out if it is happening to this many people. I also tried 3 sets of brand new batteries (alkaline).

Has anyone tried the switch issue on a 30mw True yet?

I am out of town for the week and still want to solve the issue instead of sending it back and waiting another month and a half to get my next one that very well could do the same thing...
