Hey Guys, I am new to the world of lasers and am planning on ordering my first laser very soon.

I've decided on the NovaLasers alpha105. Does anybody know much about this laser? What are the pros and cons of it.

I plan on using it for astronomy/star gazing, burning things, and lots of other things I find interest in doing. Is this a good laser for these purposes? I am mainly interested in burning power, beam visibility, and want something that will last me a very long time.

Does the alpha105 shine in this categories? If not what would be a good alternative?

Thanks!

awesome another person that wants an alpha 105 ;D I have one and it's great

The Pro's
uses AA batteries that last several hours of constant heavy use
shutter to keep the lens clean
long duty cycle
feels good in the hand
comes in a sweet case
Mine came averaging over 130mW
very stable
Has all 5 safety features
Has a good warranty

The con's
2 second delay (one of the safety feature) not much of a con but maybe some people might not like that
...thats about it

it's a very good burner I have several video's on youtube of it's power

Thanks for the fast reply and detailed post! Have you tried using it for astronomy? Will it clearly show where your pointing in the sky? Would you say it is a better choice then the X125?

I had an alpha 125 and it was great. The beam is more than bright enough for star pointing.

I would say it is better than the x-series because it has much more heat-sinking around the module. It can be ran for longer periods than the x-series because it has more mass. I dont think I ever even felt mine get really warm. You'll love it

I really want an Alpha 105 but can't afford it at the moment. :(

By the way, I've noticed that the Alpha series lasers seem to have plastic key switches. Is this true? I don't like the idea of plastic keys since plastic is relatively fragile. I wouldn't want to turn the key too hard and break it by accident, LOL. ;D

I would defiantly go for the Alpha 105 over the X125. 20mW difference in power isn't much in terms of burning and seeing the beam you will have to compare them side by side to tell the difference. And like Maxkillz said it averages 130mW!!!

I want to buy this model too but I have other more important expenses at the moment (tuition). :'(
