I just sent my 125mw starphaser cni back to wicked lasers 2 hours after i recieved it in the mail,  its been 13 days and still no refund.  took me long enough to get them to give me a refund.  The pos wouldnt light a match no matter what,  it had a lot of issues.

anyway...  i am trying to decide what to order,  i think i'll go with an x-125 (when they are in stock, if ever...)

but ive been looking at the 120 envee,    then i saw all of the safety features on it,  its baby proof.?!?!

3 second beam delay,  now thats just crap.. WHY?  on earth,  would a laser have a built in delay...  this ruins it!

question:  whats this weird plug in thing a ma  bob that goes into the envee?

question:  are there any american companies i can order a 125 mw pen laser from ?  i'm sick of hearing about these defective lasers from china. ( please dont tell me dealxtreme, i dont feel like blinding myself for life because this terrible company doesnt know what an IR filter is. )

stupid question:  can a regular red laser be changed to give off infrared light?   from what i understand greens can be just by removing the crystal.

buy a laser from somebody off of a forum? doesnt seem like a great idea...

and from what i see pseudonomon  is only selling a near infrared laser,  it looks nuts but i want a powerful greenie.

Tomek, since you are new, that is fine to say (sort of) but I personally would trust Pseudo with any purchase of anything. Some of us sell on here more often than others do - he always sells good stuff :)

assuming you live in the USA those bothersome features are required by law. Did you know that it is illegal to import a laser pointer>5mw that does not have those safety features ? Did you know you can be fined a hefty some of $ if you import a laser pointer without safety features ? Did you know customs may seize your laser and destroy it.? You lose the laser and your money. These are the chances you take. Most don't get caught but you may be the lucky one who does. You pays your money and you takes your chances.

question: whats this weird plug in thing a ma bob that goes into the envee?
It's called a dongle I believe. The purpose of which is to complete the electrical circuit for operation.

Not that I'm aware of. Green light will blind you just as easily and quickly as IR light. Keep in mind a laser of practically any output would cost you more to have made here than a laser made in China.

steve,

very useful information... thank you! i had no idea it was illegal to own a laser >5 mw without all of those safety features.

im not even sure if i should buy a laser anymore, i'll probably get myself into trouble with it.

thank you again for the information

Check out dragon lasers, I started this laser trend with the MB forums and a few members have bought from them (we are all happy and so far no problems) the offer a good price and so far the only issue I have had was created by me trying to clean the lens but it fixed itself.

The 125mw dragonlaser can easily light matches and pop balloons and burn your skin. The CS is great at DL I have had a few questions and they always answer them within 24 hours and it took less than 5 days to get my laser in the mail.

Believe it or not it is not against the law to own one nor to use it.

so its only illegal to import it? ...   hmm

well i just sent my 125 mw cni back to WL and its been 11 days,  no response from them as of yet.  is it possible that my laser was destroyed?  i followed wicked lasers instructions on how to send it back,  i labeled the item value as $0.00 and all of that good stuff...    o_O

For me China or HongKong post usualy takes anywhere from 14-20 days. I would wait two weeks before checking.

And steve001 is correct. Once it's in the U.S. it's not illegal to posess or use a >5mW laser. However (and this is a big grey area) it's illegal to use a laser pointer that has a power greater than 5mW. By "laser pointer" I believe that means using it as an actual presentation pointer for classrooms, meetings etc.

And it is illegal to import or sell such a laser as a "pointer", or for any other purpose without the key-lock, closeable shutter, FDA registration of make/model, deadman switch (the dongle thing, in case you drop it, like a jet-ski or snomobile) and a timer delay.

However, once they're in our grubby little hands, the law in the U.S. is silent on the issue. Star pointing, photography experiments, industrial use, visual effects, holography, general laser experiments, scientific demonstrations, and laser shows (with proper FDA guidelines, and FAA, if outside) are just fine.

Also "OEM" Original Equipment Manufacturer laser components such as diodes, crystals, or sub-assemblies not in a complete and ready-to-use form are also fine in any power. It's then the responsibility of the final assembler to follow FDA laser regs, but only mainly if selling the product on a commercial basis, or using it in public as a laser show. Some sellers try to label complete pointers or lasers as OEM, but that does not pass muster.

I think items coming in from China have more scrutiny than things leaving the U.S. For items leaving, I think they're more worried about State Department military/tecnology export controls like encryption systes, supercomputer components, certain microchips that are "too powerful", and other military tech.

I don't know if U.S. laws on lasers apply to exports, but I'm guessing that even if they do, unless it's obviously weaponized, or has use in sensitive research, I suspect they care more about imports than exports.
