Hi all,
I need to do some surveying of geologic contacts on inaccessible rock faces. I have the gear to do so (reflectorless total station which uses its own sweet laser, but unfortunately not visible) and will need a field assistant to point out contacts as I go along surveying. Essentially what I need is to be able to see only the point of the laser in broad daylight, from distances up to 50-100m, on multicolored gravel outcrops. Are there any cheap, reliable lasers capable of this?

Thanks for your help.

I have a similar problem. But i also have two 1 minute old K&E transits. I have removed the level from the top of the scope and mounted a green laser. From two known points I then calculate the azimuth to the desired but inaccessible point. I set up the transits on the proper azimuths with the laser pointers collimated to the transit. I pan both transits down till the two green dots overlap. That is the point I was looking for.

The reverse of this would be to climb the hill and align a plumb bob with one line / azimuth, then walk up / down the hill till the other line / azimuth was also lined up with the plumb bob string.
