Hey guys!

So, I wanted to try out making my own DPSS system. I ordered the IR 300 mW 808 nm laser diode a while ago for only 3 bucks from china, and I had a KTP crystal set from a broken green pointer. Got it today, and hooked it up...

And I can definitely see where DPSS is a pain to calibrate correctly. Everytime I turn it back on I have to realign the system but I'm rather happy it works at all.

It's all just put together using hot glue.

Lol nice, Quack!

Aye, I've done temporary set ups like this too with monolithic crystal sets. Imagine doing it with uncoated NdYAG, KTP, and four mirrors!

Please tell me you had IR-blocking goggles on though?

Were you referring to Sig, or me?

If it was me, I did not; However, I was making sure of where the IR was reflecting and had my iPhone being used as a sort of IR sensor... I could tell where it was reflecting most and thus avoided said area.

Hmm, I was afraid of that. Please be more careful with your eyes. Remember that phones have IR cut filters on them, so they depict only strong sources of IR. Consider buying some goggles if you want to do cool experiments like this.

I know. :)

If I do decide to do more experiments like this, I'll need to find crystal sets (KTP, LiBO etc) and IR goggles... until then I won't worry about it. I'm sort of low on funds at the moment so it'll probably be a while. :(
