Hiya all LPF folks,
I will show you my newest build so far, perhaps some of you get some ideas for your own builds...

Well, I assembled this first to be powered off 1x 16340 li-ion battery.
The thing is, that the stock driver from O-like simply decreased the current to prevent overheating, since it has to dissipate a lot of heat.
And it was drawing 0.78A o_O

And I wanted to use 18650 because those sure last a while, and after hours of planning and thinking how would I position the driver and cool it,
I simply sent it to hell.

Then it occured to me that AMC7135 driver, two in parralel , supply 750 mA, and I could mount them in stock Aurora driver pill, and also I could nicely recess the brass part , more inside the heatsink, than my previous 50mW build which will get the same treatment soon enough.

So, I found two spare 1x AMC boards, I desoldered one IC and soldered it on the first board, I also jumped the rectifier diode on board and added large SMD capacitor on the output to protect the laser diode that suffered enough. 800mA for 100mW module, jeez :D

Now, some pics would be in order to explain how I assembled it.
Note that because of the way AMC board are installed, build is case NEGATIVE and module must be isolated from the case and driver pill.
Former is not the problem as entire thing is anodized. Latter was a bit of a problem, but gets solveed easily.

Now, halfway there...:

See that the driver pill is drilled out , the brass part of green module must also pass through, to be recessed as much as possible.

Now, the heatsink is installed over brass part and secured in place with some glue to the pill. Heatsink and pill must not touch eachother so some insulation tape was used.

And finally everything threaded together:

The module was previously able to light matches within 3 or 4 seconds from cold start, before the driver started to fade the current.

However, true to Susie's words, 100mW module at stable 750mA is not able to light matches.
I am measuring 80-85 mW of power on my DIY LPM, that is including IR.
Matches smoke a bit, but won't ignite, as to be expected.
Will nicely smoke anything black though.
(Perhaps its just mine matches that are somewhat more difficult to ignite with laser, some other types I've had I remember igniting them easier)

Beam specs as advertised, neat thin beam at exit, and divergence is OK.

This 100mW green unit was ordered a long time ago, though, and perhaps it's the newer batch that suffers from a lot of problems.
Ask Bill what do I mean ;)

As soon as some batteries are done charging, I will take some night beamshots.

Thanks for reading, folks! ;)

That's a nice laser! How come you didn't make a video about it?
Too bad it's not outputting 100mW while that 50mW green pen you had did output 100mW.

Charged batteries, new measurement just jumped over 100mW peak, then settled at 90 mW.

I did not take a video, because my camera battery died.
I will make a video as soon as it charges, demonstrating this laser and diffraction gratings that Bill gave me.
You should see that.
Or shouldn't. You'll be safer that way :D

So can it light matches now that it's 90mW?
Also can't wait for that video! Maybe I shouldn't see it, but I want to.

Should give it a shot, didn't bother with it.

I am editing video now, should be up on youtube in about an hour.

Unless I lose my internet connection, because it usually happens at such (un)opportune times.
