Chinese Street-Merchants gone wild?

Ok so here's the deal: A friend of my close friend got a 100 mW greenie from a Chinese Street-Merchant in Greece spending an unbielevable amount of money! 20 Euro or 28.65 $ . That's an amazing low price. I tested the laser myself to see the visibility of the beam and I was amazed. It seems it's something better than my ledshoppe 50 mW ( beam is more visible and dot is brigther ) It's power is 70-90 mW I could say. Now I was wondering if I should go and find that merchant to buy one of these. What you think? Remember, I got my ledshoppe greenie for 18 euro. Thanks in advance.

There can be a wide variance in quality in these street level cheap lasers. If you could find and buy from the same vendor, the laser would probably not be the same. If you were lucky, it might be powerful, but more likely to be weak or mode-hop. Probably there will be no IR filter. You would want to take a portable thermal LPM with you to find a good unit.

Hmmm ... post #400 ...

Sure if you got a portable meter it would be a good deal since the trick on all this is to find the good unit. Just look how some 5mW from DX peak 70mW lol.

That sounds like your friend got a good deal!

Look, you don't need to make or buy a LPM just to gauge whether or not to buy a 20 Euro laser! For this situation, a subjective test will probably do.

You can...

A) Grab your friend and his greenie, go to the same vendor, tell him you want one just like it, and use your friend's for comparision; or

B) If you can't do that, then arrange at your friend's convenience to compare his new greenie and your LED Shoppe side-by-side, so you can see how much stronger it appears (sounds like you may have already done that!) Go to the vendor, bring your LED Shoppe with you, explain what it is you are looking for, and compare the new one with your laser. If it looks good - buy it!

I haven't compared my 50 mw to his 100 mw yet but it seems his is more powerful. I 'll see. Thanks for your suggestions :D Appreciated.

Your welcome, Silvershot! :yh: Let us know how it works out!

It sounds like you guys in Greece got lucky! Here in America, we don't have any Chinese street vendors selling us 100mw lasers (at least, none that I've seen), let alone for so cheap!

I gotta find that salesman. Well, it's a she, she is a woman and she always says " good good " when you ask her what her products are :D:D I think I can get it for less than 20 euro. Trust me they accept such beggings in order to sell :) Will post back if I get one. Till then, cya!

Bump! I didn't buy any of those 100 mw lasers. I guess one greenie is enough for now. I mean the ledshoppe 50 mw I own.
