Building a Green Laser (1st Timer)

Hey I have decided to make a small gift for a friend in which ill be putting this

in a somewhat themed enclosure.

They go to University of Washington, mascot is the Huskie

Purple is their color.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Couple of Concerns:
#1) Best way to put the batteries and this module in one entity that I can then put in the stuffed animal?

#2) Difference of the "bounce" vs wire leads on the driver.

#3) Heat issues?

#4) Duty Cycle and Safety Goggles?

I think think there's a way to fit the laser module into that enclosure.

Enclosure says it's 4 inches tall "with ring". So about 3 inches total for case.

Laser module is what, 2 inches, maybe bit more? Where do you plan to put the batteries that can provide needed current? Remember, button cells don't work here.

You wanna give your friend a laser? Just give him a nice 50mW greenie normal handheld unit.

Subjective opinion: He'll appreciate it far more than hacked-together module within keyring LED light.

Okay so I am intent on doing a hacked up laser but thanks for the suggestion.

-Where do I get a blank battery contact board with leads, because Survival Laser comes out to be like 12 dollars with shipping.

-Also this laser driver has a red and yellow lead, so which is positive and which is negative?

-Also what power options do I have for this guy.

-What is the spring on the driver for

-And will this draw a lot of heat?

1) I dunno, I've always made my own blank boards by desoldering everything from obsolete or burned out drivers.

2) Which driver? You mean one on the module already? Safe bet is, Red = Positive. If in doubt, 532nm green modules are almost always case positive, so measure resistance between it's casing and it's input leads. 0 resistance between case and one lead = that lead is positive.


3) What do you mean by "power options"? You gotta apply needed voltage with a source capable of providing needed current. 2x Alkalines, 2x NiMH or 1x Lithium Ion are battery sources you can look into.

4) Spring on the driver is alternative negative input, same as not-red wire.

5) 50mW greenie, the heat isn't really all much of an issue I think. You're good.
