Hahaha love the Packers/bears joke! Go Pack!

But yeah, some guys up here are foolish enough to carry 44mag, and some even use 460 or 500 S&W, which are all fine rounds and weapons.
But, none have the knock down power of a 12ga slug. And are notorious for their lack off accuracy. Especially the 460 handgun.

A 44mag will just piss an Alaskan brown bear off.

There is a reason ALL our Alaskan Wildlife State Troopers carry 12ga shotguns as bear protection.


And yes, I have a long 9 month winter full of darkness, and I'm spending it makin my bear gun lighter,smaller, and more optically AWESOME! Haha

Anyways, thanks for the help so far, but really just looking for the builders on the forum to build a good durable, high power, small green laser so I can mount it on my weapon.

Even if they could build you one the cooler temps up there would mean you would have to warm it up or wait a long time for it to come up to temp.

Oh and BTW that pistol was an .454 Casull Alaskan, and it settled this Grizzly down pretty well for a lowly handwheel.

Itty bitty gun NOT.

454, is still a small round for brown bear, doubt it was in one shot.
Lived in AK for 20 years. Trolling the net lookin for pictures to contradict my 12 ga comments is just wasting time. I'm not here to talk about guns.

I have yet to see any 532nm laser that will run at the very low temps you experience, at least reliably and brightly. You may be better off with a M140 445nm build since they appear to perform fine at low temps and you can get near 2W with a spectacular beam. I am not sure what kinds of distances you are hoping for this to be effective at but I know an M140 with good focus can hold its dot fine for aiming purposes with a shotgun at at least 75-100ft. The issue is, I am unsure just how bright it is for you during the winter. PM me if you would like to talk more about it and possible designs.

OK SPAZ... I just finished 1 weeks worth of handgun shopping and did extensive research on this unit and the .454 Casull, even purchased one myself. SO this is NOT your trolling:wtf: typical reply posting. This is what the round and gun was built for.

I did not disagree about the 12. slugger, sure it's the ultimate way to go. Just giving you some alternatives, but since your the 20 years in the Alaskan bush mountain man I digress.

I'll leave you to your much worthy task of finding a 1500nw:crackup: greenie build, what the hell do I know anyway.

I know enough that in my head I put together your worthy 532nm 1.5A dream machine and will tell you this, it will not be able to be shock-proof, water-proof for anything close for what you want to pay.... there is a reason why those targeting lasers are so expensive.:beer:

I'm sure the sales person working behind the counter told you all kinds of stuff. ;)

Look man, I'm not knocking the 454, I own a S&W 460 that also fires 454 and long colt. I like the 454 as its a flat nose which allows it to hit very well.
I just think its foolish to use a handgun on a charging brown bear.
If I were limited to only carrying a handgun against a grizzly, I would go with a 460 as its around 2200-2400fps with a spizer tip.

But, as I go under the idea as I might be limited to one shot, I carry a 12ga slug.

Which 454 did you buy? Hopefully you didn't get convinced in buying the Taurus Raging Bull. Lol

I should only need a maximum of 50 yards. Any further and I'd need a deer slug to hit anything effectively for a kill shot.

I won't be using it in the winter. Only summer, with very bright sunlight. How bright is a blue 445nw beam/dot in the day light? Is 445 nm blue?

To clarify, its wavelength is in nanometers(nm) not nanowatts(nW). Nanowatts would be far too small of a unit of output to bother with. The 445nm lasers can be as high as 2W aka 2000mW. Unfortunately they aren't visible in full daylight. I don't think you will be able to reliably get a full daylight visible laser without spending thousands. Also, as I said, you will likely hit issues with temperatures being too low for them to perform well. Yes, 445nm is blue.

Brother.... I guess arrogance is one of your virtues. No, I did not buy the raging judge I bought the Alaskan as shown and it's at 60,000psi 4x the .44 but you already knew that, soooo have fun on the forum judging by your past post you'll be a real asset here.

What do you mean Temps are too low?
Our summers are 70-90F depending on what part of the state you are in.

It depends on the laser, but greens work better in warmer environment, and blues in colder.
