Buget Around $300, Most Reliable Power I Can Get?

Hello, I hope to get a laser of at least 200mW, I have done much research but I am not sure what to go with.

Nova is way too expensive.

Optronics 250mW group buy is looking good to be right now, little expensive though @ $305 then gonna need battery, charger, and shipping, and probably going to take forever to get to me.

I would like to stay away from O-Like because I have read some sketchy things about them.

Wicked ... way too bad of a rep.

Dino Direct, Chinese based, don't really trust, I live in the US.

Jet Lasers, sounds good but a little more on the expensive side. The group buy option seems interesting to me.

Rayfoss, read quite a few bad comments about them as well.

See my position? I just don't know what company to go with for reliability and output. I don't have a meter so I need someone reputable so I don't get sold one under spec. Suggestions?

Thank you

Wait for this one: http://laserpointerforums.com/f45/new-viasho-250mw-230-shipped-57479.html

Where did you read bad comments about JETLASERS?
Their prices are here: Green Laser Pointer,Jetlaser Brand,Trustable & High Quality - Jetlasers.org
GB #2 for JETLASERS is currently running, but it´ll take time.

I've been waiting on that thread, however they will not ship to the US. And it will cost around the same if I sent you the money and you ship it over and I think that will take a long time as well. I'll consider it more once we find out if they are genuine or not.

I also had the wrong site for jet lasers :p, their prices are on the steep side. The group buy may be an option, I would be able to get 200mW for ~$265 it seems.

Also, I don't remember where but I feel like in a few threads I read that they were either not up to spec or something was wrong with them somehow.

hmmm. Wanna show me one of those threads? I ordered a 200mw laser from them and got a +300mw laser.

I honestly can't find them, I went through so many posts today and I was pretty sure I read some things. But now in looking for them I read a ton of positive things! I will remove that part in my original post so no one gets any wrong ideas. Maybe I read across a few flukes earlier because now that I look in more detail, it definitely is mostly positive.

LOL .... he never said that.
But after you said it, he thought he did and now he even thinks he remembers something bad about them.
Talk about subliminal suggestion.

Haha what happened was that I said I read quite a few bad comments. Then after not being able to find them and finding more positive comments than negative ones during the search, I edited my post and changed it so I don't give jet a bad rep and potentially jeopardize a few sales without even proof.

$300 is way more than enough to get you a quality build. Are you specifically looking for a mass produced laser from a chinese company?

You can get very nice 1W 445nm laser for close to half your budget.
You could also get 700mW 405nm for around $200-$250
Reds are kinda stagnant and haven't gone over 250mW (unless pushing them very hard)
As far as green, you could go high quality on a green module, and then get a host to put it in.
These are all the "non-chinese" alternatives

If I don't have to go Chinese I would rather not! How is the burning power with the 445nm and 405nm? Obviously the green would be more visible but will the others have better burning potential due to the higher wattage?

I was thinking of building one but that sort of thing scares me because I would be dealing with expensive equipment. Is it difficult? Anyway what are some reputable sites for high powered modules? I will definitely look into it. Thank you

If you want the most bang for your buck(s), get a 445nm (blue) laser, there are a LOT of people running them over one Watt (including me) and they seem to last for a long time.
Sounds like you want a "professional" job instead of doing it yourself but if at all possible I'd recommend utilizing the service a few LPF members are offering.
They make the host, heatsink, and sometimes even the driver and lens available to you. All you have to do is buy the diode, press it into a module solder the leads on, and tighten a set screw holding the module into the heatsink. It's easier than it sounds and will be well within your budget even with goggles, battery, and charger.
BTW. You NEED goggles with anything over 5mW, especially if it is your first laser. Some of these things can blind you before you can say "oh crap, that is reflective".
Good luck bro, it is a fun hobby but a bit addictive.

Alright thank you, what is a reliable site that sells modules? I would like to take a look and see my potential options.

I am getting in on the Jetlasers GB for a 180mW that will cost 275 including battery/charger and he is throwing in free diffraction gratings for everyone apparently :)

LOL ... I wasn't talking to you in post #6, I was talking to DJNY.
Once again, the ONLY thing you said about Jet Lasers was that they were a bit expensive.
I read your original post very carefully.
No worries.

A 445 diode is about $53 (I think) from daguin
$2.50 grab a module from aixiz's website or their ebay site (I think they are the same price)
A "405nm" lens will work fine for the 445nm laser and gives a nicer beam profile but sacrifices a bit of raw power. (~$10.00)
A heatsink and host you will have to look up on this site, if you search "hot option" it should yield some good results.
DTR, Jayrob, and a few others (truly sorry for forgetting names here guys) make hosts with a driver already installed.
That is a "hot option" prices will vary but I think everyone selling on this site is a reliable trustworthy member of society. Just look lower in their selling thread and you should see a lot of satisfied customers ;)

Lol you don´t understand :p

The thread starter wrote in his OP that he read about bad JETLASERS products. Some people, including me, asked where he got that infot about bad comments (cause JETLASERS is great). Then the threadstarter recognized that he was wrong about bad JET comments and edited his OP. Got it? ;)
