Ok so on the weekend me and a freind went to to a market and my freinds dad purchased me and my freind a brand new Green Laser at $75 (AUD) so i was really exited, i loved it but then Me been Stupid me wanted to make it more powerful, so with alot of effort i managed to destroy something, scratch the hell out of it, and loose the button. That wasent the end either, when i pulled it out i noticed a small diode was barely hanging on(reffer to picture) so i pushed it down and it fell off, now i managed to find it and glue it back on, so after i did that i pressed the button and the laser flashed red and then died :yabbmad: so then i pulled the glued component off and accidentally dropped it never to be found again!

So im looking for a new one of these

<a href="http://s1088.photobucket.com/albums/i326/lukeyH1/?action=view&current=Brokenlasercomponant-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/i326/lukeyH1/Brokenlasercomponant-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

or alternatively http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/i326/lukeyH1/Brokenlasercomponant-1.jpg

I am desperate for help accepting any advice, and am in two minds whether to return to the market and ask him if i can buy another for a discounted price or buy a new component and fix myself(then i wouldn't have a button)

P.S. i have not got a clue where to get one of these componants

I would go buy another. There's nothing you can do, and nothing worth doing (i.e. the cost of labor) on that laser.

Lukey,

As Bionic-Badger indicated, these lasers:

1) are not really repairable for the labor required, unless you're REALLY good at SMT soldering; even then, not really worth the effort,

2) are not really worth AUD$75,

3) generally do not survive pot modding ('overdriving').

There's no way to know what the value of the component was (it was probably a SMT resistor, not a diode) without seeing the original value of it. They can be ordered from a variety of places very easily, but to be completely frank: if you got yourself into this much trouble trying to modify the thing, the chances of you getting that component back on the board are ... low. SMT soldering is not a walk in the park.

These lasers can probably be had for $8, but may be hard to get into Australia because of the 1mW rules.

You may want to talk to some AUS folks here who may be able to obtain one for you to keep yourself out of trouble with your friend's dad...

Soldering that resistor back on wouldn't be that much of a problem - most online electronics stores sell them... but i read you mangled the whole thing quite badly, so i doubt its the only thing that is broken.

Aryntha said everything that needed to be said. +1 rep

But, just to back him up, I would also recommend getting in contact with any Australian member and hopefully you'll be able to get a sutable replacement for about 1/8 the cost!

LukeyH,
It would have been nice if when you joined the forum you read the forum rules and posted a welcome post 1st. As a matter of courtesy to the members. Then did a search for "pot modding green lasers" and read..............
aryntha did sum it up well. You mentioned gluing it back in and seeing red flashes? Well, that isnt good and if it even worked from gluing you would be lucky as it should be soldered in for a good electrical connection.
If you had read the forum abt pot modding 1st you would have seen abt 99.9% of the posts state that is a good way to kill your diode or crystals on a green laser.
