I bought this laser
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Green-Power...8&qid=1391258226&sr=8-1&keywords=curtzy+laser
Since it was reduced from £20 to £5 and I was interested in buying one for astronomy.
(Worth mentioning I'm new to lasers)

It arrived and I was confused to see the specifications of the laser different to the ones on the box and on amazon.
I took some pictures and posted them on imgur for you to see, I don't believe it is that much as I tried to light a match (even with black sharpie on it) and nothing happened.
Here are the pictures (They are high resolution, 4000x2248 so remember to zoom in on them if you are struggling to read)

The £5 Laser - Imgur

Unrelated: The batterys it came with were crap, so I put in new batterys and got a very bright spot on the wall, a small thin beam in mild lighting conditions and a very nice beam at night, perfect for astronomy.

The only fault(?) is that if you push the button harder, it's brighter. (I'm not joking here the brightness does vary on how hard I push the button. A friend also confirmed it for me when he had a go with it)

This is a typical cheap eBay greenie pen. Most are never the advertised "5mW/1mW" output power, instead they typically range from 50mW-100mW.

Be aware not all of that output will be 532nm light, most will be IR light. That being said, EXTREME caution is to be used with these types of pointers since a quick second hit in the eye will cause damage :(

It is just a generic label.... It is used for a lot of chines pens. Notice how it has the "<" symbol. This means "less than" so your laser is less than 500mw... which means it could be 499mw, but it is probably like 20mw - 60mw

And heed Greenlander's warning. If your pen stops emitting visible light, do not look into the aperture while the laser is on! The crystals may have dis-aligned and you are being hit by 100mw or so of IR (invisible radiation) which will blnd you permanently....

This is why it is good to buy QUALITY IR-filtered lasers, like from laserBTB.

Hope this helps!

No, do not use that module. If you want a good quality high powered green lasers, you can buy the SFAG series from thejoker301...

DX modules are garbage. And modding green pens will get you no-where. There is no such thing (when it comes to lasers) as of quality and cheap.

I think I may have gotten lucky with my DX module as it is pretty good, but DX takes forever to get stuff to the U.S. so it might take even longer for you. Also no guarantee on quality. I would take KRNAZNBOY's recommendation for an SFAG from thejoker/sci-filasers.

Link: SFCG-100 532nm Green

Keep in mind that safety goggles are a must with lasers over 5mW

Might I add I never once believed it was 500mw, so no sarcasm is needed.

Will that 100mw successfully ship to the UK?

I hear battery's are more often the cause of confiscations, maybe if I buy it without the battery?

Yes, buying it without the batts will greatly increase it's chances of passing customs. Be aware it dosen't make it a guarantee though :(

Why do you need a stronger pen for astronomy? IMO stronger pointers distract from star observatory and you also get too much attention from your neighbours (and maybe police).

If I read your post right, you´re fine with the power when fully pressing the button, but you want more stability and no defects, right?

Three options from my side:
1. Buy 2pcs of these $4 ebay green pens
2. Try out one of thesehttp://laserpointerforums.com/f52/100mw-532nm-15-a-87292.html
3. Go with a certified laser from member Thejoker301

These options cost you around between $8 (opt1) to ~$40 (opt3)

If you only want it to use for astronomy, you don´t have to care about IR even a bit.
If you also want to do some burning stuff, get some goggles.

Are refunds a possibility? :D

That depends on the company you buy your laser from. Most do not hold *liability* for a seized laser since the customer should be aware of their country's laser laws.

The LuckLaser website dosen't specify anything about seized lasers, but I wouldn't be suprised if they didn't.

That $15 laser looks good for it's price.

Would something like this be good?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/NuoYa005-Po...290640&sr=8-2&keywords=green+adjustable+laser

(Obviously not good good, but it's adjustable focus and cheap. I've got about that much money in amazon gift cards which i've been meaning to use so it's essentially free)
