I'm honestly impressed with this laser. It's way more interesting than the site made it seem.

First off, it's not only a 5mw pointer. This thing actually has modes and operates like a flashlight.
-You click the button once and it puts out 5mw for indoor use and such. It stays on without the need to keep the button pressed down.
-Click and hold the botton for 2 seconds and it switches to 50mw outdoor mode.
-It has a strobe mode.
-Great build quality far as I can tell.

As for the color I'll just say that this is clearly not an ordinary 532 penlaser. It's like a true deep green color as opposed to the lime-green 532.

I'll post a more proper review with a video showing the modes and some beam shots later tonight.

Impossible to say. I'd try contacting them. If it's 515nm that would be interesting.

The cheapest direct green diodes you can buy right now, are the 0sram PL515 which are 515nm, so it could be possible that this laser uses that diode

Honestly for that price you would be better off building your own.

Really? I looked on DTR's shop and found this for $120 and that wouldn't even include a host. The plain diode is $60.

I suppose that pen contains the 30 mW diode, but is either driven to only output 5 mW, or mis-labeled as such to keep in class 3A for legal purposes.

There are not -that- many 515-520 mn diodes on the market, and none of them seem to be limited to 5 mW exactly.

I used a laserglow lyra as comparison for this. You can really see the difference in wavelengths when comparing the dots..

This youtube video gives a brief demonstration of the 3 modes provided by this laser. 5mw constant on, 50mw constant on and strobe.

So, my Berlin Lasers 515nm variable output pointer came today and here is my results using fresh Duracell Quantum AAAs. Low power setting avg. 2.2mW with 3mW peak. High power setting avg. 27mW with a peak of 31mW. The instructions did say <5mW and <50mW so they aren't lying. I was perhaps expecting more on the high power setting but it is nice and bright in a normal lighted room. Definitely a safe pointer on low which is my first actual eye safe green pointer. Overall I am happy with this laser, I like the constant on functions, better than having to hold down a button. The color is nice too, noticeably different than 532nm for sure. I will take some photos and create a thread sometime in the near future as I compare it with the 532nm. :beer:

UPDATE:

I purchased some 700mAh Energizer AAA rechargeables and ran the same test again: low power avg. 3.4mW with 4mW peak and high power avg. 26.2mW with 31mW peak. I think I will just stay with the rechargeable batteries for this:

Additional update:

This particular model is 515 5P-30, so after additional research the "high" setting should be ≈30mW so at 31mW peak this model is performing exactly as it should be.
