Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

well, I guess this modules crystals couldn't handle 745mw, it slowly dropped, and once it reached 25mw, I took it apart to see how it was made, it IS a cmount diode, I measured the output of the diode at 743mw! I may just take the crystals out of this one and make it an ir laser. I wonder if this one is just bad, because it dropped to 25mw like this when I first got it, and hadn't done this since, I was hoping it was just a fluke. Oh well.

Various Chinese manufacturers. You don't need to look any farther than these $65 labbys to see this. They bought them for a customer, who changed their mind so they started selling them to the public. Part way through the "run" the model changed. If they were making them, why would the model change in the middle of an order? What probably happened is they had a customer who ordered a bunch of 50mW green labbys. They had to get them from more than one manufacturer to get the number required because no one manufacturer had that number on hand or couldn't make them fast enough. I got a VERY similar unit from SnocTony.

Peace,

Well, now that ive re-assembled it, its doing 70mw again. I guess its not finished yet. I have gotten diodes from snoctony, but never a whole laser... how well did that module work Dave? :-?

It works fine. I forget what it is putting out. I haven't "messed" with it (yet). The head does need active cooling. IIRC it looses power as it heats up. That's probably why I haven't messed with it yet ;) I need to set up at least a fan, maybe a TEC. The head is also smaller than the Aixiz head.

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

Here's what's in their Ad, very misleading;

"AixiZ is a direct OEM manufacturer"
"AixiZ LLC is licensed laser manufacturing and service company for Class IIIA, IIIB and IV products under Texas license #Z02105"

"Removable collimation assembly designed to accept AixiZ 12x30mm cross and lines lenses"

Now you have to admit that wording is very suspicious, "designed to accept AixiZ"  Come on "designed" by whom? It should read, hey our lines lenses just happen to fit this; again AixiZ IS implying they made these, and by the price they want, it implied they did too.  Just another example of an American company buying Chinese stuff and sticking it to the US Consumer like it was actually made in the USA.

That's always been my biggest beef with Chinese goods, those American companies layoff US wage paid workers, buy this stuff extremely cheap in China and then act like they made it themselves.  I don't mind Chinese stuff for Chinese prices, like DX; but this just goes to show how in the end we all lose. But there are winners here, China and the American companies that pull stunts like this.  No wonder people have a hard time find jobs in this country, you can't compete like that.

I'd glad buy an American produced product and keep Americans working, company profits soar and workers can't find jobs because of this stuff.

I was very happy when I purchased my Coherent meter to find out that the meter and sensor is built right here in the good olde USA.

OK, this is getting too far off topic, sorry for my rant; but I am Bullish on America and Proud of it!

IF I didn't know about DX I would have assumed because of that wording that Aixiz made it, instead they just marked it up to the hilt  :D

Yes I know DX is simply a retailer, no problems there; DX never stated otherwise.

I wonder what they actually do make?

We need a Texan to swing by and say, "Howdy!" That is what they say, isn't it?

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

There is no tec in this aixiz module, if the one you got from snoctony has a tec that would explain why it gets so much hotter. This one seems to not even get warm after 10 min on. That is enough difference to make me think they are quite different on the inside. The power supply does look very much like the same board though. After taking the diode out of mine and looking on the inside, it doesn't look like I expected it to look. There is what appears to aether be a cavity reflector or some sort of filter before the crystals. I will take some pics later on today if I get a chance.

can you post a picture of your driver Max ? (just to be sure with wiring)
I read the 2 thread and one guy was saying that this labby can be focused (with force) is that right ?
Is the beam as thin as a dx greenie or bigger ?

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

Disassembled my module today. I removed the front lens and the diode and its pretty easy to get it back together. the screws in the back only line into their own holes so its almost impossible to screw up the alignment. I removed the internal cavity reflector glass piece disma was talking about and my output is actually noticeably brighter and burns better. I also replaced the thermal interface material/grease with some heatsink paste for my computers heatsinks/waterblocks. I used the Arctic Silver 5 brand and it works amazing. The casing is actually becoming very faintly warm now, which shows signs of good heat absorption from the diode housing.

I removed, cleaned, teflon taped, and recollimated the front lens element and it works great also. I had a piece of dust inside that I was able to remove. It bugged me for quite a while. lol..

This unit is totally awesome now. Going to run it for a little while and Ill tell you how it goes and stuff. :)

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

so, the small square transparent piece isn't a cavity reflector then. HMMM.... I wonder what that is there for? wow. I wish you had a meter to see what the difference is with and without it. Now i'm confused, :-? What the heck is this thing in here for? Some sort of polarizing filter? Anyone know what this filter like clear piece is for? I sure thought it was a cavity mirror for the rear end of the laser.

I still plan on taking some pictures of this and getting them up here.

ok, I have taken some pictures, I have found amazingly that the square peice appears to have a hole burned through it in this module! I couldnt get my camera to focus on the crystal instead of the back of the module.
