Anyone making theres portable know of a good driver that can run of 3 volts that cam manage 630mA to 670mA? and a good host?
A good driver would be a simple LM317 driver (The DDL circuit). You can't push up to 1.5A out with one of those.

the lm317 is a good driver, but it will take 2 ohms resistance, and 6v minimum to run it. 4aa's.

i wouldn't run a portable laser with that kind of power draw unless you wanted to use some Li-ons or something

ya, 6aa nimh will run it for 3 hours or more. I have a 1w 808 running from a 7.2v rc car pack, and it runs great from it @ 1.1 amps. It all depends on how much run time you want between charges. a 7.2v rc car pack should give at least 4-5 hours @ 650ma. They are 3000mah or more. the aa's (nimh) are 2100mah.

Got the new unit. Puts out between 75 and 90mw Im guessing.. I found that when the driverboard became warm, it got buggy. It was running in that funny arch shaped TEM mode again, and was hopping to TEM01 as well... I think "as long as its cooled" applies to the board itself too. I'm building a housing and adding a fan. I'll let you know whats up when I'm done.

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

built a driverboard housing w/ a 1.13" 5v fan(external psu) and its running well! starts in TEM01 but will fix when I adjust pot down and up.

The output has been consistent and I would say its more like 75mw than 90mw. takes a bit to light a match when focused.

Left it on for about 10 mins now and it is pretty cold actually. No real heat issues.

Seems to be a driverboard cooling issue.. Keep it cold and it'll keep you happy.

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

yay for triple posts..

Disma.. I gotta say.. this may be a 1w diode.. The laser hasn't gotten hot at all and is running perfectly stable at the max output of the board. I think that the diode could take a bit more power, and if the diode dies, the crystals certainly have a good chance of running on a higher power diode. they only begin to lase properly at around the highest power on the board..

ya, I noticed a similar operation from mine. I am tempted to try putting 800ma into it and see what it does. I will try it when I get the 317 driver built... but I cant work on that until I get my air conditioner fixed.. gees its hot in here.

800mA like to see that and post what happens. I hope you get your air conditioner fixed and you are so lucky as its been raining in Scotland for the last few days but there has been a lot of mist so its not all that bad.

I sure wish it would rain here, its 105 deg. :( Ya, I cant wait to see what will happen, I hope it does 150mw.

If it does 150mw, I'm gonna have to build a LM317.. lol.. Right now I gotta stick with my stock driverboard because I need to adjust the pot at the beginning of every turn on to kick it out of TEM01..

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

Its been running for another 3 hours, total 7 1/2 hours since I've gotten it and its fine and dandy. I got an awesome unit I do say.. :)

If you need a fan, check ebay often for "Micro fan" auctions, or anything along the lines of "small".. lol.. They work awesome and you can put a screw right into the fan, and into the vreg heatsink.

I have the perfect fan for it, a small centrifugal blower about 2 inch diameter, originally from an asus mb. :D

Any pics of the fan? I may decide to beef mine up a bit or over volt it to get some more airflow.

Heres some pics of the module and the driverboard+mount I've made. Just to give some rough ideas of how I cooled it and powered it. :)

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

ok, I have built an lm317 driver with 3 x 5ohm resistors in parallel. It measures 720ma on the meter, and is putting out 110mw average. before on the 115 ps, this module was doing 107mw peak.
