Did you turn the pot all the way up? :-? I don't think it will do much until you turn the pot up... If it is bad, you could call aixiz, and tell them, they might send you a new one, or you could build your own power supply for it with an lm317 like we have been discussing if they don't.
There sure has been a lot of bad lasers from AIXIZ. WOW. Hopefully its just the power supply and not the diode, or crystals. If it is the diode, you could buy a new diode from snoctony on ebay, and put it in the laser, it wouldn't be too hard to do, but thats another 70 bucks, then you could run it at 1 amp... Does it make any noise? :-? If you take pictures of its output with a camera, do you see anything being output in the pics? :-? I cant believe they keep shipping broken lasers out like this. I wonder how many work that we don't hear about compared to the ones that are not working. I really don't think they would have 99.9 feedback on ebay if they were selling that many broken lasers.

I got one of these in the mail today.

the leads are broken off the laser head right where they enter the head.. no way for me to repair it.

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

I emailed Charles about the trouble w/ my laser, and he is immediately taking care of it for me.

He said he came here to respond to the other people who had trouble, but couldn't log in for some reason.

So, if anyone does have trouble w/ these (or any of his other products) don't hesitate to email him at cmaricle(AT)mfgcn.com. He seems quite concerned w/ keeping his customers happy.

I'm thrilled w/ the quick response I've gotten from him, so dispite the trouble w/ the laser wires being broken, consider this a good review for Aixiz!!

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

Keep us informed, If you get one that works, its worth the 70.00... Even though I got 2 that didn't work, the lasers were actually good, it was just the power supply's that were bad, so I was able to replace them with 317 drivers... I still plan on trying one out at 1 amp one of these days. The only real gripe I have with aixiz is the short email answers they send, and the fact that I got 2 broken lasers out of the 4 I ordered, one of wich took 3 weeks to arrive. I would hope they are able to replace the ones that have been shipped that have problems. They do seem to be replacing them for those that have returned the broken ones. :-/

Got mine. doesn't look exactly like the pics provided but is definately really really bright and I turned it was up from the setting it came on which i assume was 50mw. Great laser for me as of today. Very very good deal in my opinion being a newbie.

Oh just wanted to add that i got it outside last night and the beam had really low divergence and could be seen for miles. Pretty awesome. I still never turned it up all the way but ive gotten pretty close im sure. There is really no need for anything more powerful. (for me at least)

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

I received mine today (8 Sept). It is the usual kind, not the weird 30mW that mauswiesel got recently. Works fine, but the pot was already set near the maximum... turning it up didn't make a visible difference. I don't have an LPM so I don't know how much it is putting out.

Wrote a bit about it [link=www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1213471542/99#99]in the other thread[/link].

I also received mine today. I wrote a quick review in the reviews area of the same topic.

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

How does it run at the lower settings? I'm thinking 30-50mw should be sufficient for what I am wanting to do (of course I say that now, but I know it would not be long before the pot would get turned up ;D ). I am looking into a labby more for the duty cycle than the power. I am still in 5mw land and am looking for something with more power to use in for holiday displays and be able to run for hours at a time.

They are just starting to get back up to speed. I just received my modules that I ordered before the hurricane. Give them a bit more time. Your window for a dispute is not close to the end. If you haven't yet, you should get an email from eBay saying that if you cannot wait, you can request a refund. If you do get a refund, what are you going to do then? Have you decided you don't really want a >50mW labby for $70 or will you just be ordering it again?

Peace,

Ok, he says he's back in business, and has plenty of the older (the kind we like) 50mw lasers back in stock.

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

What was the ruling on the IR filtering? I have been through the 3 threads on the unit, and I believe it was determined that this one is not filtered.

If not, is an acceptable solution to just order a IR filter from a reputable source and install in front of the beam? Sorry noob question.

A good note I did get my shipping notification today. Maybe by monday it will be here.

These lasers are NOT IR filtered in the standard sense, however they do not leak IR in the same way cheap green laser pointers do. This is due to the construction of the modules which only allow IR to pass directly through the crystals. This means that the IR is contained entirely within the beam. In order to stay safe, you only need avoid direct exposure to the beam itself, which you should do anyway. If you measure the output of these modules on most power meters the reading will be for both green and IR output. I'm not sure about the ratio, but I believe that the green output is dominant. One person on this forum stated that after running the beam through a dichroic element to sparate the green from the IR they only lost 4mw of output. What this means is that only 4mw was IR, the rest green.

The time to be concerned about IR is when it is not confined into the output beam (as often occurs with cheap green laser pointers). If stray IR is emitted from the output lens in any other fashion, you could get hit with a stray beam and not even know it until it's too late. This is due to the fact that IR is invisible, and will not provoke a blink reflex.

Also, yes, obtaining an IR blocking filter and placing it externally would be a simple fix if you are concerned about eliminating the IR. You will lose a small amount of total output power, but you would get an almost pure green output.

If you use these modules as they come, without IR filters installed, you may want to make sure your safety glasses are rated for BOTH 1064nm and 532nm.

Personally, I don't consider the IR emissions from these modules to be a huge problem, since they are well controlled and confined to the beam. This greatly reduces the danger involved, and for the price... why complain?
