Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

I tried to order 2 from Australia, but eBay wouldn't let me complete the transaction.

A link came up saying lasers are prohibited or restricted in Australia, click for details. I clicked but couldn't go any further, even though it did say at that point that they were 'restricted' not 'prohibited'.  So why couldn't I complete the transaction?

I emailed eBay customer support pointing out that this was not a laser pointer etc etc. Basically the very nice but woefully inadequate reply that came within the stipulated 48 hours used words to the effect that because laser pointers >1mw are now banned from Australian imports, eBay will not let you purchase lasers or laser components that can be used to make laser pointers - you have got to be F***ing kidding me!  That is really NOT their call to make

They went on to quote some purported provisions of some Commonwealth law banning all laser pointers >1mw with no reference to importing.  What they were unwittingly quoting was a Victorian state Act, which has no bearing on WA where I live.  They had confused this with the new importing laws.

I was planning to contact Aixiz directly to see if we could do a private deal, but last night I found there was some life left in a 10mw greenie I thought I'd fried.  May still try and buy some of these, but I'm spending far too much money on lasers these days (just got in 10 803T sleds).  My other hobbies are definitely languishing....

I hope your deal goes through, Murudai.

Alternatively, you could 'contact seller' and try and do a private deal. I know sellers are wary of this kind of approach as a possible scam, but if you explain the situation you may have some luck.

Middleman wouldn't be good for me. Scanners are big things, the shipping can be $100+. Having to ship it multiple times really burns a hole in the wallet :(

I was just talking to the seller about payment and he seemed pretty relaxed about it, so if it comes down to it I'm sure a private deal would be fine :)

A good driver would be a simple LM317 driver (The DDL circuit). You can't push up to 1.5A out with one of those.[/quote]

My LM317T always starts to get very hot at >400 ma's.

It will stay cool if you use a good heat sink, if you build it in an aluminum box, use the outside of the box, don't forget to insulate the lm317 from the box though.

I really have to something to prevent it from overheating because at 700mA it burns your fingers after 10 seconds.

Hmmmm.... thats interesting. I haven't tried to clean the lens... I wonder why its getting dirty? way too much power?
the aixiz guy did lie about the ir filter, maybe these shouldn't be run that high, I'm not running the module at 1 amp, I'm running an lm317 at 1 amp on another laser. (the 1w ir one in my avatar.) I would think 1 amp should be safe to try if these are 1w diodes though.

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

Just ordered one on ebay. Stoked to get it as it will be my first nice laser :). Any thing to consider when turning up the pot so as to not destroy the diode?
Im a newbie.

Thanks,
Micah

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

Just make sure you get one like the one in the pics I took, and not one thats rated 30mw like a few have received from aixiz... the 30mw ones im sure cant be turned up like the 50mw ones.
If you get the right one from them, theres no problem turning the pot all the way up.
