Hey guys, new to the forum and to lasers.

I wanted to get my first laser soon. Here's what i'm looking for in a laser:

1. Able to see the beam in a lit room. I don't know if thats rediculous or not...but a green laser whos beam is easily seen would be nice.
2. Reliability

Thats really it, lol. Something that allows me to see the beam, something thats powerful. And hey, if it can light a match or pop a balloon? Even better :)

Any reccommendations? Milliwatage? Brands? Colors?

Thanks it advance for all your help!

Cool, sounds good to me. Anyone have any advice on a manufacturer? Looking to spend less than $70 if possible...but want something that wont break in a week.

Any manufacturers that people particularly recommend?

Thanks in advance.

first of all, a 30mw green laser will not, i repeat will not be visible in bright light, i have one and you can not see the beam in bright light, that takes tons of power like over 150mw

check out dragonlaser and don't cheap out, splerge on something worth while since it will burn, be seen in low lite easily and impress

and a beam that goes 10,000km or 4.5 miles or 50miles, you decide - recommend the Hulk

Amazon, 30mW for $26 and it can be shipped to US. i got my 50mW for $42 and its still poppin balloons after 2 months of use, and you can see the beam in a barely lit room, but not a brightly lit room, thats a little unreasonable for such a low power

Advertising that a laser can go for 20 miles is a lie. Even a laser with good divergance will be 10 feet in diameter after a couple miles.

30mW will pop a black balloon and cut electrical tape with a jewelers loupe. My 20mW does that. Don't expect to see the beam in day light or in a bright lit room. You'll need half a watt for that.

Dealextreme wont sell lasers >5mW to US. Expect to spend way more than $70 for a good one.

My advice to you is also to be careful with your eyes. Lasers can be very dangerous!
