Hello! I am new to the Laser Pointer Forums and I need some advice buying my first real laser. I have gotten 3 cheap 5mw Lasers Pointers (Red, Green, and Blue) on Ebay along with one 5mw 303 laser pointer. The 303 has a very visible beam in my basement and at night, and a slightly visible beam in small light. I have been thinking of purchasing a new laser, but I feel I should get some advice from an expert before I make the purchase. I'd first like to ask, what's the difference between a Laser Pointer, a Handheld Laser, and a Portable Laser? Ideally, I want a green laser (I heard green lasers are the most visible) that has an clear beam in daylight and other well illuminated areas along with the ability to burn matches (not black) instantly for <$200. I also want included is the batteries, charger, the corresponding nm glasses/goggles, and possible a star cap(s). Here are the sites I was considering:

High Power Laser Pointer - Green, Red, Blue & Violet
Wicked Lasers | Blue, Red, Green Laser Pointers
https://www.laserglow.com/
www.rayfoss.com
laserbtb
http://www.sky-lasers.com/
Home

I have also found some on Ebay with everything I want in it's own briefcase, but I'm unsure if those are safe to trust (some of these are blue, not green):

1 w High Power Military Green Beam Light Laser Pointer Pen Battery Charger Box | eBay

1 w Blue Laser Pointer 450nm Beam Visible High Powe Burning Lazer Star Cap Set | eBay

1 w Military Astronomy High Power Green Beam Laser Pointer Tactical Pen Box 16B | eBay

High Power 445nm Focus Visible Blue Beam Laser Pointer Pen Box Burn Match 5mW | eBay (I don't believe it is 5mw)

New Model 10W High Power Pro Military Blue Laser Pointer Pen Light Beam | eBay (I would get this in a heartbeat if it is a true 10w)

Please reply if you have pointers, advice, other products, information, etc.

Very bright at night and a little visible in light so you point it in your eye to test its output like a meter? I would go with Aliens advice:undecided:

Do you want to be blind?
Why would you point a laser at your eyes? THAT'S IDIOTIC!

Actually I don't want to know, but don't even type that childish prattle here, you are either trying to get someone gullible to hurt themselves or you are very very ignorant.

DON'T BUY ANY MORE LASERS!

Get a nice flashlight, something rubber covered that you can't hurt yourself with, maybe something with big bird or cookie monster on it.

Just to clarify, I don't point lasers in my eyes for fun, I accidentally caught a few glances after pointing a 5mw at some wrinkled aluminum foil (I didn't intend to create that assumption). I deliberately asked for a pair of nm corresponding glasses/goggles in my original post knowing that I am asking for some MUCH more powerful. I am 29 years old, not a crazy 12 year old who points at cars and planes. Also, to Hap, I meant 'visable beam in the daylight' as if I could make out a couple pieces of dust in the path of the beam. Btw, I live in the US and know that FDA standards (5mw) but I'm willing to take the risk. Just to reiterate, I don't point these at eyes, cars, and planes.

You said this:

(advertised as 5mw but sticker on laser said 1000mw, but I pointed it at my eyes multiple times with no harm)
The problem is people read what get's posted here and some novice or young person could read that and think that it's ok when it is not, even a 5mw laser can cause damage to a persons retina.

The person reading what you typed could be mentally challenged or a chronic pot head, who knows, the point is what you said could cause someone to get hurt or hurt someone else.

Ignorance of lasers and their safe use it a threat to the hobby and the sight of innocent bystanders and nobody here want's to see unsafe laser use promoted, NOT AT ALL, people get banned for saying things like that, you should edit that out.

Why the hell would you point a laser that is more powerful then 5mW to your eyes? u are lucky u didnt get blind because those green lasers are usually 50mW if not more and that can cause permanent eye damage, even go blind i dont think u should have any lasers at all.. nobody in their right mind would shine a laser in their own eyes and i really doubt u are 29 years old u should know better that lasers arent toys even low powered u shouldnt shine them in your eyes.

The only time u should get a laser in your eyes is at the hospital maybe by people who knows what they are doing..

Please, only respond if it can get me closer to buying a laser that comes with glasses to protect me. I don't want people patronizing me over a short statement which is now removed after RedCowboy mentioned the novice/youth that browse here. I have seen videos prior to purchasing the 303. The beam in the videos were much more visible than the beam of mine, even after the camera lens minimizing it. Because of which, I didn't take much caution when pointing this. Hopefully now, after removing that segment, I should start getting some helpful feedback. Besides, they're my eyes and I promise 100% that I am not trying to harm someone else. Could someone also answer my first question: What's the difference between a Laser Pointer, a Portable Laser, and a Handheld Laser?

Sellers mix the terminology up all the time, but I think it's supposed to mean:

A pointer is 5mw or less.

A hand held is over 5mw and should technically have an aperture shutter, an on indicator light, a safety dongle, a delayed start, a safety key, and a warning sticker.

A portable is a higher power laser that is portable yet not designed to be hand held.

One more thing about less than 5mw green or dpss lasers, they have ir pump diodes that are typically 500% the output and there can be leakage of invisible ir laser light, so that's bad for your eyes, also an ebay 5mw purple laser is typically around 50-75mw otherwise you could not see it, again bad for eyes, in short just because it says under 5mw that is no guarantee that it is eye safe unless you buy a certified pointer from a reputable seller under 1mw.

Thank you for that. So if I wanted a >100mw green handheld laser, which site(s) should I be looking at? And if possible, which product would you suggest? Again, I want it to come with the batteries, a charger, and glasses (preferably in a briefcase) which the eBay options I provided included. It's not a big deal if it doesn't.

The next dpss 532nm laser I buy will be this:
Cool Special High Power 400mW Green laser torch/focusable [OL-GR-400] - $139.99 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

But understand that this 400mw beam is highly focused, actually it's focusable and waterproof, but it is more dangerous at longer distances than a 1000mw 445 multi mode blue laser because of the tight divergence.

This is a good deal on a bright tight round beam, but again caution is of paramount importance.

Look at the pics at the bottom, it has everything you asked for and its 400mw, that's a bargain and o-like won't send you a 50mw marked 400 like other ebay ripoffs, it will be at least 350mw.

Now if you shine it in your eye, even for an instant, you will burn a hole in your retina and blood from the brooks layer will fill up your eye mixing with your viscous humor and all you will see is a dark maroon cloud, your retina may detach, or you may never see out of that eye again for a variety of reasons, at the very least you will have lifelong vision loss after lots of expensive eye surgery. But I trust you will not do that.

Done a little more researching... I have heard lots of satisfaction from buying off of people who build lasers in these forums. Anyone know some trusted sellers I can contact? I also found two other options on O-like.com:
5 in 1 sky star High power 400mW Green laser torch/focusable [OL-G400-S] - $145.00 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce
5in1 Special 400mW 532nm Green laser star torch /focusable [OL-G5IN] - $143.00 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

Neither have any customer reviews nor say anywhere the package contents which looks a bit sketchy.

What do you want?
Green or Blue?
Do you want to burn with it, there are many options, I have done well with o-like and I have always been happy with DTR.
If you like burning up close 0-10 feet then the multi mode power is hard to beat.

Originally you wanted a green in a case with accessories, but if you want a nice burner you can get a DTR module and an eghemus host.

How much do you want to spend? What do you really want?
If you want fun burning power then multi mode is the way to go dollar for dollar. 100 for a NDB7875 module with driver and lens + 100 host

It depends on what you want.

Look at this beautiful copper host Ehgemus just made
http://laserpointerforums.com/f39/fs-custom-laser-hosts-new-hosts-added-today-11-30-15-a-93207.html

You only need to buy a ready to use 3 watt blue module from DTR and connect 2 wires and for 200 bucks you will have a really nice burner.

Safety glasses are a must.

p.s. The cheaper ebay 445 will be a 1 watt and the heat sink will be pitiful.
