Actually, no. The FAQ does not answer my question. Heck I could barely get a correct answer out of you lot with a THREAD. Doesn't matter now anyway, I just stuck with a 5 mW laser from DX. Don't really want anything more powerful than that and the 5 mW bean is still visable in a dark room so I'm happy.

A 5mw 532nm is visible very well in the dark.my 40mw is visible in a lighted room.I think you will have fun with the 5mw considering the fact that the higher powers are quite dangerous to the eye.The pictures you run across can be time exposures in dim rooms which make the beam look brighter than what it really is, or in air that is slightly smokey.It takes higher powers 40 to 50mw and up to make a bright beam.125mw would be very visible indoors....and you would have to use goggles.If you want to show people how cool the beam looks, stick with the lower powers like 5mw and do it in the dark.

I like my 40mw.But I treat it kind of like a gun, It will NEVER be pointed at a person or something that could produce a specular reflection.Too dangerous.

Once you have a laser big enough to easily see the beam in most lighting conditions, you have arrived at a power level that requires goggles and can instantly cause eye damage.I hope this answers the question.Unless you are responsible and committed to your safety and the safety of others, avoid high power like the plague.And 5mw abused is dangerous too.

5mw works great for star pointing...and all of my friends have remarked on how well they can see the 5mw in my urban yard at night.Are you really saying you cannot see a 5mw 532nm beam in the dark?Or are you saying it is much dimmer than 100mw.....which of course it is.

Again, I wouldn't say that a 5mW works great for star pointing. Yeah it can work, but no where near great.

Maybe you have a very overspec green.

Hmmm.I no longer own any 5mw.2 8mw and a 40+mw.But the 5mw were very visible here.And they were not overspec.I once had a 1mw.It qualified as barely visible to me.But the 5?I have to disagree.Of course, there is some subjectivity at work as well.A lightsabre the 5 is definitely not.The poster should have his 5mw soon enough...and he can make up his own mind.I remember when the greens first came out.And beam visibility was hyped no end.That being said, no one was ever unimpressed by my 5's in the dark.
