Have you tried using a wooden skewer to push it from the front toward the back maybe a q-tip... those greens are like an arrow the front is smaller OD than the back. Maybe some pics would help better to give anymore suggestions.

Carefully use a vice and a piece of wood or whatever will safely work to press it further, covering the vice with a cloth can also prevent some scratching. You'll just have to work with it a bit.
