I'm looking for a 5 mw green laser(it can be over spec) and i want it to be under $40. Can you recommend a host that takes 18650 batteries and a 5mw diode and driver that would work in that host?

I believe that any module that has a driver and momentary switch ALREADY attached would work with that host.

Crap  that host is only $16.00 shipped and has a key switch in the tail cap.

I'm just wondering what the quality is

As long as you use a driver the diode won't burn out.
But it also depends on the input voltage though. Make sure it's 3.7v because that's what the 18650's usually supply.

I have 2 of these. The quality is actually quite good. The only thing that bugs me about it, is the knurling on the battery extension tube is slightly different from the knurling on the main body. Which is probably just me being picky.

However, most green modules WILL NOT fit in this host. It is designed for an Aixiz style diode module.

It is focusable as well. You can remove the extension and use a 16340, or add it for an 18650. There is plenty of room for a decent driver. A dead bugged DDL would fit nicely. The keyswitch is kinda "cheap", but all the "micro" keyswitches ive seen on anythig, regardless of value were "cheap".

It is a nice host for a red, blue, or violet build.

I did not get mine from Rayfoss. Another seller has them on ebay for $15, free shipping, making them slightly cheaper.

Sputnik77,

Thanks for the info. I've got one of these on order and figured it wasn't even close to 200mW, but liked the host.

How is the host different from the ones above? What about the module, how is it different? Just curious and wanting to learn.

Thanks.

Glenn

Yes, I have one of those too, and it is NOWHERE NEAR 200mw. Mine is roughly 60mw.

If you are referring to a green module fitting this host, its a different host than that above, and the green module is slightly different than most to allow it to fit and be focusable.

The end portion of the housing, the adjustable focus portion, on the one for greens, has a smaller internal bore, as the lens holding portion on most green modules is not required. Plus, the one above, the internal lens thread is "longer" , since the lens for a red or blue diode for instance needs to be closer to the diode. Hence, typical green modules which are longer, will not fit.

The module on mine, when the end portion of the host is removed, the optics, and cavity are completely exposed, unlike a typical green module. This is mainly because the lens is held in the adjustable portion and it does not need the lens holder portion.

I suppose there are a few green modules that could be taken apart and made to fit.

It is still a good buy at that price, even though its not 200mw. However, at any cost, even at $0.02, your still not getting what you paid for, as its advertised as being 200mw.

Im guessing they rate these by the pump diode, not actual output.

I will get some pics and post them when my cam charges.
