5mW dx Diode Dead?

Hello, I've had a 5mw green laser pointer from dx for a few months now. But seldomly used it. I changed out the batteries and it ran good for a while, then wouldn't shine anymore. So I changed the batteries again, but no dice.

I opened the case and saw some shoddy soldering but, what can you expect from a $5 laser?

Does it sound like my diode died? Is there a way to find out?
