A while ago (~1 year) I saw a video about a laser collection the The Geek Group had. I didn't really pay any attention to it as it was mostly HeNe lasers. Well lo and behold I recently discovered to my amazement, that The Geek Group's headquarters are actually very near to where I live! Maybe some of you know what's coming.........or not:D.

Geek Group Laser Collection Overview - YouTube
skip to 5:23 for the good stuff:D.
Spectra Physics 3000 series, 3400 Nd:YAG laser with doubler, water cooled, 50 Watts:gun:

I haven't actually seen it yet, but I do have confirmation that they still have it. I, as you can guess, would love to get it operational but I don't have nearly the skill or knowledge to do that, so in the coming months I will probably be asking quite a few question about how to get the laser to work. I tried to find more information about this model number 3400 but I couldn't find any, so if anyone knows where to find more information I would appreciate it very much.

:thanks:,

Re: Need help fixing Spectra-Physics 50W 532nm

Good lord that's a big laser.... The size of the crystals in that must be ridiculous! Any idea as to why it doesn't work?

Re: Need help fixing Spectra-Physics 50W 532nm

It actually says in the video, something with the cooling system according to their knowledge.

Did he say why it will never work, or what specifically was wrong with it?

Oooo, ok,:o Thanks for letting me know. I'll still see if it's remotely possible to fix it. But if not then at least it's a REALLY cool looking (and very big) paper weight.:p

More information!

Today I went on a tour of The Geek Group...:shhh:it was awesome:drool::drool::drool:
more info on everything else they have there latter.:na:
I talked to Chris and he said again that the problem was the cooling system,
they are currently upgrading the power, so any problem with that will be solved.

"If you want to build an optical bench, then come out and do it!"

I can't see my keyboard with all these tears forming.

Where's my teleport device...

Though that is one beautiful laser. 660V is ridiculous! I really hope it somehow works someday, you can do a lot with that output. With mirrors you could get 946 and get some multiwatt blue, yellow, even several hundred mW of 500.77 could be possible.

That is one beast of a laser!

I though the Lexel 95's were big!

hopefully someday i can get the pleasure of seeing a hundred mW+ 500nm. i think its one of the coolest colors in laser form...

Insane laser... frequency doubled this one is probably visible at noon, pointed at the sun.

Bloompyle: you can't tear up now:D, I haven't told you about the other stuff yet...
A few hundred mW of 500.77nm would be unbelievable to see, but first we have to see if we can get the laser working.

Crazyspaz:I agree, my dream laser would be somewhere around 500nm. I'd actually prefer a slightly greener cyan because generally,
IMO when I see cyan I generally think of it as "blue" first.

The Lightning Stalker: You ain't seen nothin yet... I still haven't said what the "other" stuff is.

Atomicrox: Only if we can get it to work.

Wish I could help but I know nothing of this stuff :/

BTW: what's the "other" stuff?

Where's this fellow even at? May be a worthwhile road trip for a future 3 or 4 day weekend.
