A few days ago I received the NDG7475 520nm green diode that I was lucky enough to win from the information GB by ARG!

Naturally, I built a laser from it, and wanted to share the build process and result pics.

I used a C2 host from dealextreme, heatsink from Eudaimonium and X-drive at 1.8A from DTR.

Unfortunately my LPM is broken at the moment, so I don't have a power reading to show :( But it should be at least 1W. No beamshots yet either, it's bright as day here right now, and even though the beam is still visible, my camera can't pick it up.
It is really super bright, the brightest laser I've ever seen, even better than 462nm 2W+ :san:

Lookin good, the module is sticking out a little far, did the back half of it get screwed back on?

No, but the driver is sticking a bit out of the heatsink, and also I was having a bit of trouble simply fastening the setscrew without the module sliding out of the heatsink as I fastened it. Anyway, I think it will be fine like that. I used thermal adhesive so it should transfer heat reasonably well, plus having it stick out a bit makes it easier to focus :)

I'm wondering if the beam isn't visible in the photo because of the spot on the wall overcoming the camera CCD too much?

About that tightening issue. I design my heatsinks so the set screw very close to the top. Check that. It sounds like the screw is a bit far from the edge , then it just slides the module out. Happened to me once.

Looks great Grix :) Personally I would've shortened the diode pins so the driver could be closer

That definitely sounds like it would fix the problem. I will let euda know.

Wow one of my sinks had a 1W 520nm in it. Honored :D

About the set screw - it's on the upper portion of the widest step I think. If it just so happens it's hitting the part near the threading, I find the better solution is actually to slide the module bit farther IN, so it catches the correct part of the module when tightened.

I also like to trim the pins of the diode before soldering drivers, to the shortest length possible. It kinda gives off the feeling it's mechanically safer.

i almost want to sell all of my lasers to by a 1w + 520nm lol

i cant picture the brightness in my head. my 300 mw 532nm is retarded bright.

It's brighter, but I think you would be disappointed. Remember 2x power =/= 2x brightness. The beam is easier to see than a 300mW 532nm laser, but not enough to warrant selling all your lasers for :p

I dicided to sell one of my lasers to buy a 462nm laser. Its cheaper and theres juat somthing about sky blue in a laser
