Default 512nm 1000mw

A company at this forum sold me a 532nm 1000mw, but what came out of the box was a 512nm 1000mw. Thing is... I've been looking at charts and graphs and while I realize 512 is closer to blue and less visible, I'm wondering if that frequency at 1000mw can actually travel farther than 532nm 1000mw? Thank you.

All wavelengths of light will travel to infinity, however how much of it you have and how focused the light is will determine how far you'll be able to see it. Im not an expert in divergence of different lasers but do know 1W of 532 light isn't going to be a very thin, beautiful line many people expect from DPSS. It'll sure as hec be bright though! If you were to view both during the day, 532 would be brighter, whereas 512 would be brighter at nighttime.

A wavelength should become mass before it hits infinity.

How do you know it's 512nm? Could you post a picture of it? If it doesn't have a distinct blue tint it probably isn't 512nm.

All things being equal light at 532nm would appear brighter than light at 512nm. Scotopic sensitivity applies when lighting conditions are dark under natural lighting it doesn't apply to comparative artificial light.

Correct, with scotopic vision you can only see in black and white. So if you are seeing any sort of color with the beam it isn't scotopic vision.

Not sure what physics you're getting that from, but it isn't relevant.

532nm and 512nm photons will both travel the same distance to infinity ignoring atmosphere, but the beam of a 532nm laser should usually be visible for a much longer distance.

Diode greens have two things working against them. First is that they're going to be a lot more divergent and won't keep as tight of a beam. It's also going to be a little more susceptible to Rayleigh scattering which will also dissipate the beam slightly faster.

As far as atmospheric absorption is concerned 512nm is a little better, so while the beam won't be noticeable, 512nm photons should travel further.

Which company was it? Are you sure the label isn't just misprinted...? 512nm is awfully specific, I'd expect to see 510, 515 or 520 if it were diode. It should have a slightly blue tint to it if it is 512nm. 532nm is more of a lime green.

Some pictures would be helpful!

What laser from where??
Nobody offers/sells a handheld 512nm 1000mW and almost nobody offers a 1000mW 532nm either ---a lot of sellers marketing lasers misrepresent output and wavelength so...

If you paid for a DPSS 532nm and got something else--return it--you got ripped off.

Oh man, if I could get a good 507 I'd pay a fair few wallets worth. Anything near 500nm makes me salivate.
