Hi, I've been searching the forum here for the past hour but have not found any information about green lasers loosing their color and only have an invisible beam?

I 'd been shining my laser around and the green light seemed to dim a bit, then a bit more and soon there was no green dot. so i got my camera over and pointed the laser into the lens and looked onto the screen and it showed that there was an invisible beam sooting up. has anyone ever heard of this or how to fix it.

Regards,
Ray

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT LOOK INTO THAT LIGHT! That is IR, and usually results in crystal misalignment, or temperature/power problems. Try new batteries in it, and if it works fine, then its just the power. and if that doesn't make a difference, i would try get a replacement. i wouldn't go in and start friggin around with the crystals, if you happen to break it, then that a laser in the bin. may i ask where you got it from?

Yeah, I haven't looked into the beam but yeah i bought it off eBay from a seller with a good feedback score. I have also tried a few different batteries in it and its just the same result.

well i would say try to get it replaced, as the internals of green lasers are not user friendly, one bump and the laser will never work again.

I have a 5mW that I have had for about 7 months and it has been fine worked well for me and still does then I got a 50mW and it screws up on the first day. so is there any way of easily seeing if i can get the green color back or not?

well if you have tried new batteries, different temps(like warming it with your hands) and other stuff, i think the crystals are out of place, which is almost impossible to fix without proper instruments.

I had this happen to a DX greenie, I never got quite to no green but it was weaker and weaker, I took it apart and found that the back part of the module was loose, which misaligns the crystals, I turned it to tighten the thread up and it was full strength again :)

It is worth a look, be careful though there are some fine wires passing through that part of the module.

well yeah, if you don't really wanna send it back, you can have a fiddle around with it, it could be the switch now that i think of it?

Yeah Under the camera it shows a very very bright white light so I am guessing the switch still works. I'm not sure how to take it apart i don't think it is threaded?

I had to take a long blunt instrument, such as an allen key, inserted facing the back of the module, and one hit with a mallet will pop the module out.
Be carefull however as:
A)You might not have the same pen as me
B)You may well crack the circuitry which precedes the copper diode/lens housing
C)It's a bitch to re-align the button to circuit when you re-insert(Which again requires the use of a mallet)

I'd say this is a case to claim warrantee... if you can in by any means. Re-aligning things using mallets and other brute tools can be fun, but isn't often succesful.
