There may be a problem with your crystals.

My 50mW greenie starts fine at temperatures of 10C.

Does the beam mode-hop at all?

Well, for starters, try a new battery.

You can't tell if it's mode-hopping or not if there's no beam.

Well sounds like an empty battery, you know batteries are known to regain some surface charge when left in warm place, and then when you draw current it will give some current but then die again,

Try charging the battery, also, when you click to turn on the laser, when it's on, try touching the button (but not clicking it again) to see if it will change the light output.

Perhaps some old switch is installed, old contacts can cause problems like those.

yeah i think it might be the battery. is it normel for a low battery to shoot out a strong ammount of IR still? but i was using my laser flat out when i got it. with a cheap cr123a battery. Mesured at 3.23v.

IR is not strong, it's 3x stronger when battery is full but you do not see it because of green light,
3,23 V for lithium ion (rechargeable?) cell is pretty low, and that voltage goes down even more when battery is operated, hence very low voltage -

And there is your problem. You need to recharge the battery.
