That pen *might* hit 50mW, but usually with green lasers you need to spend about $1/mW to get anything in terms of quality. Buying 50mW pens is a gamble, for that price especially.

Swimminsurfer in the b/s/t section sells cheap but nice pens, I did a review of one near the end of this thread, and have two more on the way from him to use as presents, I doubt they will hit anywhere near 50mW of pure green though.

Finally for a bit of self promotion:p

PriceAngels has a better rep than focal price, but again, you get what you pay for, and with pens especially it's a crap shoot.

30mW for that style pen is very realistic, price is also somewhat inline.

In my signature, I have a link to a review of a 50mW from BugdetGadgets that I've been very happy with. It's $31, however they sell the same model with 30mW of power for only $22 and free shipping, so that is what I recommend for somebody in your price range.

I haven't bought the 30mW, so I cannot guarantee it's the same quality as the 50mW I reviewed, however I'd be really surprised if it was lower quality because the are both from the same manufacturer. I think it's safe to say you'd be happy. :)

Good luck on your laser hunt. I hope you find one you like.

(In my review, I compare the BudgetGadgets 50mW directly to the LEDshoppe 50mW, so it might be particularly to your interest to read it.)

Well that BG-laser looks better than I expected :) I remember seriously doubting between that one and the ledshoppe 50mw before, but I chose the latter. 31$ is more than I wanted to spend, but it is tempting after reading your review.

on the other hand; I have my 200mw old dilda for burning and green is visible enough to be fine with a lower mw's, so I'm keeping it within the ~10-12$ range. Priceangels is offline atm however, so unless someone has a review about the focalprice one I'm open to more suggestions (divergence is more important than power, 30mw is fine. DX seems to have some but I dont like DX)

I remember having the exact same opinion back when I got the LEDshoppe 50mW (LD50). Back then, researching the forums led me to consistently find opinions that the LD50 had the best and brightest beam around. It was impressive at first, but the laser decayed so rapidly that I began to regret my purchase within the first month of owning it.

Remember, the 30mW version of the laser is only $22, but I understand if that's still too high. I'm always working with pennies when I look for a new laser, or any purchase, for that matter.

You're definitely right to be skeptical about DX. Buying a laser from them is somewhat like entering a raffle. You never know if you'll get what you paid for, double it, or a burnt out metal stick that emits under 5mW. It's a pretty big gamble. I can tell you from experience that their customer service is nightmarish to deal with.
