I just bought a 100mw wicked laser and it came with a diode rated up to an output for 500mw.

I was thinking about taking it apart and putting it in a custom module.

So I'm wondering what the max possible stable output would be.

Uum I know it's risky as I could lose 300$

so I'm looking for some
help from the pos incase I ever do it.

Let me know thanks.

The diode is actually IR, not green

It is used to "pump" a crystal that doubles the frequency to make green.

If you take out the diode, you will be really disappointed, so please don't do it.

Sam's Laser FAQ: Welcome Page

it is very interesting!

I did not know they were that complicated.

My next question is,

How would I go as to taking it apart to increase it's power and if I do manage to sucessfully increase power what kind of output would it yeild. How much power could it take before the diode will die.

I'm completely new to building lasers but I most certainly capeable of handeling building one.

I do understand that increasing a green lasers power isn't "magic"
that it is quite complicated. Not as simple as "turning a pot and unleashing harmful ir"

What I want to know is if I can build a ir free laser what's the limit.

OR

If it's totally not worth the time or risk.

IR diodes are available quite cheaply, so I would never disassemble an expensive laser to get one.

start from scratch, buy the parts, keep that wicked laser alive as is.

there are lots of places to get good high power IR diodes, Heck just go on ebay and search "IR laser diode" a bunch of results should pop up.

Try the Buy sell trade section here.

A good driver would be a heavily heat sinked LM 317 circuit, again schematics are posted right here on this forum.

It's worth it, as you will learn a lot, just be damn safe with it, they can seriously burn and blind.

that's what I wanted to know!
Thank you.

I do know some things that should come in handy if I should build a laser. I do have a few IR diodes in mind. Uum i may start doing my soon so that I know alot before I start. I'm defenitlly gonna start my laser cheap .

I'm glad there are some nice people willing to help newbies on here.

Thank you very much for the info givin it sure would have been a waist to break my wl.

I will defenitlly use some of your info if I ever build a
a laser.

Again thank you very much.

Someone has a green diode ???? Too much fluff above in this thread to read it all.
I'm looking for this diode. I hope that this is for real.

HMike

is this why we need a tech thread?
