It would make sense to me to just get with JETLASERS China.
Shipping would be local and so cheaper..
I think you should forget the idea of converting a lab into a portable.
I get the feeling you want a laser than can run non-stop- which lab laser can do but not very likely as a portable. With shipping battery and charger you may find a JETLASER that makes more than 300mW- which is very close in brightness to a 500mW- but I would highly suggest using a duty/ rest cycle for the health of the laser-- To be on the safe side around 5 min duty and the same as rest- if you are in a cold time of the year you could use it longer or if the temperature is high then maybe a short time would be wise.

They are very good priced compared to power, but divergence isn´t the greatest with these.
I know his supplier, ordered lasers before from him.

Speaking of divergence.
What's a good divergence for a laser?
Cos so far what I've seen on 500mW+ lasers , the divergence just ranges from 1.5mrad to 2.5.
Is that good ..or
